Still way, way too many.
I may get downvoted for saying this, but I think that unfortunately, many countries cannot afford charity anymore.
If you take UK or France, there’s a major political, housing, debt/budget crisis. Regular workers are facing major issues just to pay their bills and put food on the table. There are records of poverty and homelessness.
It’s my 2 cents but if a country cannot get rid of its own poverty, charity must be limited.
I must admit i dont have a good overview of syrian domestic politics after the overthrow of the regime. But by this data point, it looks as though its not a bad idea to reduce refugees by just making their home countries liveable. Yes there will always be economic “refugees”, but really, most of the refugees are just fleeing an absolutely inhumane, horrendous situation in their home. Give them even a hope of stability and they will try to make it work, its the human instinct.
You have to stop the generation of new refugees if you want them to stop coming here
That’s nice to hear
The comment section here is the trash I expected.
So let me get it straight: The numbers are falling, especially from Middle Eastern countries while South and Middle American countries are rising in numbers (so, culturally more close due to religion – granted most of them also go to Spain where they already speak the language) and the only thing I read here, after the EU actually succeeded in the thing you wanted, is that you just moved the goalpost to “yeah actually I want 0 asylum applications now that it’s down”.
I also guess that the question about population decline won’t be answered by the same people (by the way I’m not advocating for more immigration to solve this problem before you foam your mouth) or the question who’s going to do all the bullshit jobs the people in your country won’t do (and please don’t kid yourself that anyone who isn’t an immigrant is going to pick up toilet cleaning as their profession).
