Because Labour wasn’t the Tories, that’s the reason they won. Tories messed everything up with an open door policy leading to massive demographic changes and people noticed.
The whole immigration thing was a big shining red light down the road and the political class refused to acknowledge it. Outside of the left leaning chambers of Reddit it was obvious what was coming but Labour stuck their fingers in their ears.
Then shock and horror, people saw Labour doing nothing about it and people revolted to reform.
Also Labour have a massive image problem, they spent their days infighting over purity tests and any changes are met with resistance, now Reform are on course for a majority they finally wake up and try do something but it’s too late.
Mass immigration to western countries are what ruined the gravy train, hope it was worth importing a city sized population yearly and the fall out that is on it’s way, in my life I have never seen such a dramatic cultural shift and it feels like we’re one bad day away from a full on revolt.
Starmer and Labour won a big majority on 33% of the vote under normal circumstances that might not even translate into a majority but Reform seriously split the Conservative vote. They inherited a bit of a dumpster fire of an economy that was growing slightly but still not exactly setting records.
Its pretty apparent they were not ready for Government with Sue Grey trying and failing to get the ducks in a row and some very apparent slanging matches breaking out even before they were sworn in. Reeves tried to do to much in her first budget and dented growth and the right wing press have hardly been kind. People are not happy with the state of things so he and Labour are getting a kicking.
If he can turn round the issues of small boat crossings and get growth going he and Labour will bounce back and he has time the election is years away, if not he and Labour are toast.
Here’s a simplified version;
Most of the media is owned by a small group of very rich people who do not want to pay as much tax.
Labour have tried to close tax loopholes and make these people pay more tax. Whereas the Tories, and now Reform, are going to give them tax cuts.
You don’t have to be a genius to see why any Labour prime minister would be down in the polls when they constantly smear them in the media they own.
Did we learn nothing from the Cambridge Analytica scandal?
It often feels like the media wants them to fail so Farage can get in. Who lets be honest, is objectively worse.
It’s really simple: he won promising
* a huge house building increase, house building has somehow fallen (it was already so low I am amazed that was possible) and labour have taken no action on any of the issues here
* no more tax increases on working people, and immediately put up taxes on labour. Then said that was a one off and all our fiscal issues were solved, and now less than12 months later we have another fiscal crisis and are discussing how working people will pay for it
* infrastructure investment and devolution, he’s cut funding for this
* immigration reform, again literally no actual action
I don’t get why people need to think this is a conspiracy theory around billionaires owning the media. He committed to a bunch of policies, they were popular, then He did at best nothing and at worst the literal opposite of what he promised. Because he lacks the balls to take on pensioners.
It’s literally that simple.
Man makes promise, refuses to deliver, people go looking for a new promise maker (farage)
It’s like people forget what happened with Lizz Truss and Boris Johnson
Pretty obvious why its so low just look at what they are doing
Created a new TikTok account yesterday and the initial algorithm it started with fed me lots of content with a fake Keir Starmers voice, where he was talking about all these awful policy changes that were coming in soon. A quick google proved they were all bullshit. But I’m sure most users are lapping this shit up
When I open my browser on my work computer I’m always faced with loads of negative stories about Keir/Labour. Microsoft’s default Home Screen displays the headlines from the worst of the right wing press.
Whether people like it or not, Politics is all about the show today, policies don’t mean a thing.
If you are charismatic then you will succeed.
Boris Johnson is one of the most useless human beings ever to have graced politcs yet he made it all the way to the top because he is charismatic and people ignored all of his blindly obvious faults for it.
Starmer has the charisma of a baige wall. He is the modern day version of John Major.
In the world of TikTok, YouTube Shorts, 5 minutes attention spans Starmer is lost.
The way forward for Labour is to find somebody who has charisma, who can charm people, somebody the general population can relate and warm to.
Labour will go nowhere with Starmer regardless of what Policies they enact.
He is in many ways a talented and impressive man. He is not a good politician. He has no natural ‘feel’ for it and makes too many stupid errors.
Labour have achieved very little and their constant simping for genocide has alienated many who held their nose to vote for them.
That being said and despite the worst tory government in history, Labour still only managed 33% of the vote and a lower total vote than Corbyn’s “disastrous” election result against Boris. And no matter what you might read on reddit, this was with a media who were largely comfortable with them winning.
They have inherited a poor hand but they’ve not done much to improve things. Boxing themselves in with their pledge not to increase the main levers of tax, forcing them to tinker round the edges with complex solutions that might not work (ie the mooted property tax overhaul) or ones that seem to be doing more harm than good (ie employer ni).
And the mind boggling decision to burn through any little goodwill they had by trying to ram through cruel and counterproductive cuts to WFA and PIP.
They might have fared better if any of them were even slightly likable. Unfortunately none of them have an ounce of charisma and one of the few members of cabinet who resembled a human being just resigned because she “forgot” to get tax advice for her property transactions.
It is also very noticeable how much more comfortable the party was attacking the new Green leader than they are attacking Reform or the surge of far right scum that are emboldened across England.
At the end of the day Farage will win and life for most people in the UK will get worse because the country is on an inextricable downward spiral. This is due to a multitude of different reasons, but Labour’s poor performance is very much one of them.
Well that will happen when you back pedal on many things that could save us money in fear of votes.
You just end up pissing everyone off as a result
I care about his polling in the UK, but I honestly could not give a flying fuck how he’s polling in other western countries, especially when so many of them have already fallen to facism.
Let’s face it, we the voters are very much part of the problem. We’re complacent, entitled and vote for out self interest above all else. We want low taxes and comprehensive services. We want low pay for everyone else. Any time any party tries to stop anything they are castigated. They don’t tell the truth because we can’t handle the truth. We get the politicians we deserve.
Starmer really needs to step aside 18 months before the next GE.
He’s not a bad guy. He’s not a bad PM. We could criticise his policies if we like… but he’s pushing them through because he thinks it’s the correct course of action even when it plainly needs a 2nd look (winter fuel payments for example).
But the main issue is his utter lack of engagement with the public. He’s as close to being an anonymous bureaucrat as it’s possible to be as the PM.
The issue is who would turn it around? I can’t think of anyone in labour with a “Blair” flair for public engagement.
And the working class are in greater numbers than Iv ever seen turning their backs on *new* Labour.
Things look grim.
Why do I feel like these ‘polls’ are just propaganda designed to create the disapproval they claim is widespread?
All media/social media fuelled. Just echo chambers being manipulated by bad actors that make people angrier.
They need banning.
Seems a bit arrogant and out of touch. I think he’s the least worst scenario and has made good movements, but hasn’t got a full grip on things yet.
He’s an awful pm. Absolutely terrible. I voted for Labour, ( I always do), but he has just continued the incompetence and spite of the Tories. His attacks on disabled people have been a pathetic low, a real nadir of decency from a man who was a human rights lawyer with disabled relatives. Thanks to him and his goons, I’ll never vote for Labour again. I don’t want to keep voting for the least worst option, I want a good government.
Very simple, he made all the right noises during the election campaign, then backtracked on the promises and brought us the Chagos deal.
Keith the human right lawyer that is complicit in war crimes and genocide!
Yes, he has done stuff I don’t like. He has also done stuff I like.
But honestly, worse than Liz Truss? worse than Boris Johnson? Get outta here. He’s not the ideal candidate but he’s so much better than anyone the tories have but forward in a *long* time.
His reaction to the southport riots caused irrepairable damage to the relationship between the rulers and the ruled.
Oh well. Not 12 months later we have labour pledging to shut the hotels and the government in waiting pledging to send back the boriswave undesirables. You can’t fight destiny.
Hated by the left and by the right and by the middle.
They’re all complete cunts who do not represent the working man or woman at all, voting is an illusion in Britain they’re all bought and paid for.
Funny how the lefties are blaming the media for Starmer and his ilk for the failures of this government..and yet again Farages name gets thrown around when he’s had nothing to do with running this shit show..running scared 😱 the lot of them..laughable!
Keith and the Briefcase Boys acting as handmaidens to facism exactly as predicted.
