What do they honestly expect him to do.. I despise the guy, but I understand in politics you sometimes have to play nice especially with an extremely important ‘ally’.

I absolutely despise Trump. But we’re absolutely wedded to the US at this point. If we didn’t want to be rolling out the red carpet for their president we should’ve been making lots of different choices long ago

How is that per capita GDP coming along, we booming? Can we afford to get into a trade war with the US over Trumps ego? People who are comfortable getting into a sanctions based war over this, let yourselves be known.
Just dont bitch about cutting services when you also want to put the economy at risk for your gesture politics.

If the price of quiet life is having Kier Starmer suck Trump’s tiny little dick, it’s price I’m willing to pay.

What has the firefighters union got to do with Trump visiting?

How is the the remit of the firefighter’s union? Is this really the best use of its members hard-earned subs? Regardless of what anyone thinks about Trump personally.

They’re just using it as an excuse to drum up support for further funding, which i guess is their prerogative as the union, but it’s still a dumb request.
No-one likes it, but we’re tightly coupled with what has, for the longest time been a strategic partner for the UK and we are not in a position to be able to sever those ties without suffering massive security risk, both in terms of our material defence and economic prosperity. All at a time of increasing global unrest.
For now, our best bet is playing the part of the sycophantic partner at the feet of their new dictator in chief, hoping they one day return to sanity and all the while, quietly decoupling from what is now an unstable state. We should be under no illusion though, the task of separating UK/US defence infrastructure and partnership is Sisyphean in scope. We should still set about doing it, but it’s a very long and arduous road ahead of us.

You cannot mix appeasement and confrontation.
We have chosen appeasement.
Of all the costs of that choice, a state visit with Charles seems an odd place to draw the line…
