Northants Police has warned about misinformation in response to a social media video posted by a new patrol group that has taken to Corby streets.
Thai boxing enthusiast Reece McCarron, who has acknowledged being behind the hoisting of a number of union flags on lampposts across the town, has posted a video on TikTok showing him and others questioning two men in a Corby park at the weekend. The men he is questioning say they are from Afghanistan.
McCarron’s gang question whether the men have ID and one member of ‘Corby Guard’ incorrectly interprets the men saying they are staying at a Corby hotel. The misleading video has been shared in various social media pages across the town.
McCarron says he has set up the group in response to a video another resident has posted claiming that a young girl was approached by a man outside a Corby supermarket who said he was ‘going to take her home’. Northants Police say this incident has not been reported to them but they are seeking more information.
The force said:
“We are aware of the ‘patrol group’ activity that has been taking place in Corby in which individuals have been approached and asked questions about their immigration status, and police officers have been deployed to the area to speak to those concerned as well as provide reassurance to local residents.
“We are looking into concerns regarding a man allegedly approaching a girl on her way from school and although we have not yet found any report to us of this nature, we are in the process of approaching one person who may have information and would appeal to anyone else who may have information about it to contact us.
“We would also like to discourage people from attending any location based on speculation as there is a lot of misinformation going around.
“At the present time, we have not identified any offences in relation to this activity but would encourage people with concerns to come forward, either by calling us on 101, reporting it to us online at http://www.northants.police.uk/ro, or calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
“We would also encourage anyone with concerns about any crime that may have been committed to contact us directly as opposed to engaging in any ‘patrol group’ activity or speculating on social media.
“This allows us to respond in the best way possible, ensure misinformation doesn’t spread, and keep our local communities in Northamptonshire safe.”
NN Journal has spoken to Reece McCarron, who said the reason he started the group was because of a ‘white, legal, European’ not because of an ‘illegal’.
He said:
“This has nothing to do with only illegal immigration, for example, where we met yesterday I seen [sic] an old man and his dog got out of his hands and I caught it at the boating lake and I returned it back to the man.
“It is a community public service. A non profit organisation from the people, making sure that everything is alright. If I see a white British man stealing tools from somebody’s van, he will get treated the same and the police would be called and everything would be done properly.”
He continued: “There was no violence, no threatening behaviour at all.”
We asked him if there was a link between his hashtag #putbritishfirst and far right group Britain First and he said he did not know who the group were.
Paul Crofts, a member of the Northamptonshire Race Equality Council, said the actions were a direct response to Reform UK and Labour’s hostility to asylum seekers and called it ‘creeping fascism’.

Bunch of thugs and bullies harassing non-white people.
It’s not a community service, it’s an attempt to make people they don’t like feel unsafe.

How long before one of these twats hurts someone then? Seems pretty inevitable.

Chinny reckon.
Unfortunately this is exactly the sort of agitation you can expect when characters like Farage and Badenoch fan the flames of xenophobic hatred. Far-right thugs feel emboldened to form vigilante groups and harass anyone who looks wrong.
Hopefully the police will take this seriously before they do anyone real harm.

Whats going on in the UK right now? Are you lot okay? This whole thing makes me so sad, I have a foreign wife and she loves the UK, or at least, her romantic idea of it. Harry Potter, Big Ben, Afternoon tea, Mr Bean and Paddington. You know the drill. I am imagining one of these thugs targeting her, and it just makes my heart break. It seems unlikely I’ll be returning home with her any time soon.

Honestly, any group besides the police will deliver better results at this point.

I assume they will be watching drivers on 20mph roads to ensure they dont speed putting children in danger? I assume they will be stopping cars that are producing a load of emissions poisoning our air and lungs? Maybe they’ll be fighting the supermarkets who are making record profits but not passing it on to British farmers? No? Just going after brown people? Excellent, well done guys.

Jesus, that guy looks like a ‘interesting’ sort of character.
The type that if you found out your Daughter/Sister or close female friend was dating you’d probably give them a stern warning.

How many people die of overdoses in this country.
How many people die or are injured due to gang violence? Or kids are abused due to county lines.
How many kids come to harm or are born with conditions because their parents were on some shit when they were pregnant.
I bet these things harm more kids than immigrants, yet there are no vigilante groups targeting drug dealers.
Because this isn’t about protecting kids. It’s about bullying people and being racist.

For all the people complaining about this, I suggest you get used to it. This group is not unique.
The West End of London has had My Local Bobby for about nine years now, a volunteer group who patrol the streets with no powers other than citizen’s arrest.
Bournemouth has Safeguard Force, a recently launched volunteer patrol.
Chris Hargreaves (ex Big Celebrity Detox) claims to have hundreds of volunteers as part of The Shield, ready to start patrolling city streets.
These groups seem to range from outright racist intimidation groups through to quite reasonable community-organised patrols.
If you don’t like the fact that policing is being done by private and volunteer groups, you need to start asking your politicians why it is that police officer numbers are at record highs but arrests and prosecutions are falling.

So a man who wants to make Corby safe was charged with for domestic violence. Looks the sort.

No mention of the race of the person who allegedly approached the girls or where they are from. While I am not doubting something like that happened, it seems like a one-off event has been used as an excuse for some thugs to form a vigilante group that is more about harassing non-white people than it is about helping the community. I suspect this group will not be doing litter picking any time soon.

This is what comes when the police refuse to investigate property crimes. Vigilante groups is the natural answer.
