      >The deaths come days after the former home secretary Yvette Cooper announced the suspension of refugee family reunion, a safe route used mainly by women and children to reunite with immediate family members granted refugee status in the UK.

(downvotes are expected, but tragic nonetheless)

Tragic. Hopefully those dangerously negligent parents feel the full force of the law.

Other outlets are reporting the children were crushed to death, which have been the same with the majority of child deaths in the last year.

The rewards for trampling a child to death are to be looked after by the British state for the rest of your life.

One of the reasons I’m against our asylum policy is that we’re inadvertently causing deaths like these of the people who are actually the most vulnerable by the people who are the least.

Immediate rejection of parent’s asylum claims please.

Putting your children’s lives at stake leaving a country where they’re not in danger(France) has no excuse.

The abolition of the family refugee claim cases should have been done before Labour were elected, and that’s why this is happening now.

The parents should be prosecuted. Personally I couldn’t live with the shame of letting that happen.

    6. Four deaths because the U.K. is too weak to put an end to this dangerous route.

We don’t solve this issue until we stop the trafficking in the first place. There needs to be more done in international policing to prevent these boats and businesses thriving from the North African coast, in addition to offering better support for proxy asylum applications so people can apply for asylum and travel safely and legally to the UK if granted stay.

Children? I thought it was just the men who seek refuge

Anyone seeking “asylum” via the channel should be immediately rejected and sent back. France is safe, period. Anyone coming via the channel is taking an irresponsibly dangerous trip for no reason, other than to take advantage of us. This should never have been allowed to go on for so long, the Tories should have stopped it. Failing that, Labour should have done something by now, but continue to drag their feet. No more, this is lunacy all for the sake of cheap labour.

For all those saying the parents should be prosecuted, you are just showing how little you know about what is going on.

The parents are not choosing to do this, this isn’t a holiday.

Most of the people on these dinghies are on them because they have had their passports, money and any other valuables taken off them by some of the most vicious people alive.

I suggest you read this before making baseless claims.

It’s about time the government reopened the safe routes that the Tories closed

People encourage this unironically thinking they are the good guys

If people keep dying, the journeys need to be stopped.

Sadly there will now be the usual suspects in the pub cackling about how much those poor souls deserved it.
