>The Flemish Government continues to block financial support for UNRWA in Gaza. After Israel accused the UN aid agency of involvement in terrorism at the end of January, many Western countries put their financial support on hold. Belgium continued to support UNRWA throughout. Now that it appears that Israel cannot substantiate its accusations, most donor countries have resumed their support. Willem Staes of NGO umbrella federation 11.11.11 calls it unprecedented that the Flemish Government does not.
>Even Germany, which of all donor countries is most aligned with Israel, resumed its financial support to UNRWA. “The fact that Germany, which you can hardly suspect of an anti-Israel bias , was given access to that Israeli ‘evidence’ and subsequently decided to resume its support for UNRWA, actually says it all: that the Israeli accusations are built on loose quicksand.
