Somehow the ghostly tone tells a much more powerful story than the original artwork…I swear the government is doing everything they can to platform Banksy
It looks like a post-nuke shadow now, perhaps even more representative of the point.
Banksy is so overrated. There’s so many newspaper cartoonists who produce better work on a daily basis.
He’s the artistic equivalent of a meme in your DM’s. A quick puff of air from the nose. “heh”
Given all the talk about the GI listed status of the building. I wonder if they got listed building consent to remove the mural? Doing it by the book surely should have included some sample areas to try and find a method to avoid the ghosting that has occurred.
Imagine being the person who had to clean it off. “Hey honey how was your day” “good dear, I had to destroy what would probably be a very expensive work of art at the behest of our government”.
Wow – they could have sold it and put the funds to something useful like art in schools, or similar. Instead, they left a ghostly image more powerful than the original work in proving the point on censorship. Brilliant.
they didn’t break off the wall to sell it? that is kind of surprising.
Certain people in the Government clearly have no idea what the streisand effect is….
Am I cynical to suggest he is paying the people removing it? It looks far too good half removed.
