*From Bloomberg News reporters Ailbhe Rea, Alex Wickham, and Ellen Milligan*:

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer removed Peter Mandelson as Britain’s ambassador to Washington after fresh revelations about his ties to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

“In light of the additional information in emails written by Peter Mandelson, the prime minister has asked the foreign secretary to withdraw him as ambassador,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.

Mandelson’s resignation comes after revelations in recent days that he described Epstein as his “best pal” in a message included in a 2003 book of tributes to the sex trafficker, who died in a New York jail cell in 2019. Bloomberg News separately reported late Wednesday that Mandelson had told Epstein “I think the world of you” after his arrest, and offered to discuss the financier’s case with his contacts.

The least he could do. Now, can he stop kissing this pedo’s ass and “protecting children online”?

This seems likea step aimed at maintaining credibility in the role.

Less than 24 hours ago, Starmer said “I have confidence in [Mandelson]” in the Parliament. A true kiss of death

A politician with a spine … Hey US, have a look at that.

Starmer would do his image a great favour if he didn’t have to wait for political pressure before caving in to doing the objectively right thing every time this sort of thing happens.

    7. Trouble seems to follow Mandelson around. You’re best off staying clear

Starmer keeps speeding up to the ground. It is impressive how one can destroy so quickly political capital.

It makes total sense for this person to be the US ambassador. With the current administration at least.

Really, this might be a mistake.

Mandelson’s association with Epstein made him uniquely qualified and valuable to British interests in DC.. a shoulder Trump could lean on.. yes, this comment is dripping in sarcasm, but it’s also fairly valid isn’t it?

Good. No diddlers, so remove the one from the Kremlin while nature takes the one in DC

You would have thought they would have realised that appointing him to any role is just going to lead to a scandal a year or so down the line as per usual

What an idiot…Why did he say the opposite yesterday? This guy’s going to hand it in to Farage at this rate.

Damn he was best pals with Epstein.

Probably gonna be rehired as a US cabinet member on that basis.
