Why would the EU do that? To please the orange felon? How about no ✋

    2. GDPR_Guru8691 on

He’s not European, so why would they? Parliament would get no businesses done if it had minutes silence for everyone killed outside of Europe.

    3. SeveralLadder on

What the hell is the rightwingers fuzzing about? We should make EU pay tribute to a foreign influencer and really poor debater, because of… reasons?

    4. StrangerConscious637 on

      WTF? He wasn’t a politician!
He wanted to have more guns in schools and told everyone, it’s ok if there are some more death through gun violence. So he kind of killed himself.

    5. TokyoBaguette on

I’m looking for the inverted commas around “uproar”.

    6. jjpamsterdam on

People are shot and killed in the United States every day. If we’re going to have a minute of silence every time, there wouldn’t be any time left for any other business. I don’t think the United States Congress has ever held a minute of silence for an EU citizen. The only European to get a minute of silence was Queen Elizabeth, at least recently. Nothing to see here, move along please.

    7. Herooo31 on

If there was no minute of silence for that poor ukrainian girl why would there be minute of silence for this guy he wasnt even european.

    8. WhatAboutFC on

99.99% of europeans don’t even know who this guys was. Give me a break.

    9. WretchedPleb on

So we’re supposed to hold a minute of silence for every single death now? Who is he anyway? He is completely irrelevant. Thousands of people die every day. If we held a minute of silence for everyone, the world would be mute.

    10. opinionate_rooster on

Right wing nuts can pay the tribute by being silent themselves.

    11. EcstaticYesterday605 on

Love some of the reaction to this guy’s death in the US. Fella literally said that its worth some people dying in order to protect the second amendment. He was a martyr to his own stupidity. Political violence is abhorrent but he was a part of a movement that supported it.

    12. RetoricEuphoric on

Lets remember “The Saint of school shootings” with our prayers, amen.

    13. PrecursorNL on

Maybe it’s stronger message to hold a minute of silence for Palestina or Ukraine at every meeting. This is pretty unfortunate for the guy, but it’s not our place to start holding silence for it…

    14. mrwho995 on

      Why the fuck would they?

He was a far-right American infuencer who had nothing to do with the EU other than supporting an administration actively hostile to it.

    15. LurkingWriter25 on

He was a gun nut who got shot by another gun nut. No one cares about this guy.

    16. Jake-of-the-Sands on

We didn’t hold a minute of silence for rep. Hortman when she and her husband were killed by a MAGA cultist, why would we hold it for Kirk, who literally said, few days after another school shooting that few deaths a year are a good price for the 2nd amendment. He literally was shot during a debate where he AGAIN PRAISED GUNS. If that isn’t ironic, I don’t know what is.

    17. Spooknik on

He’s not European and he was openly critical of our way of life to the point of saying our countries will be 3rd world.

Sorry he died and he shouldn’t have been shot for speaking what he believed in but we don’t owe him anything.

    18. AdMean6001 on

      What scandal?

What has he done to deserve the EU’s attention? He’s not elected, he’s not an official, he’s just one political “influencer” among thousands… In short, on this side of the Atlantic, we couldn’t care less.

    19. I’m American and I have no idea why anyone in Europe should give a fuck about him.

    20. Aristotallost on

It has nothing to do with us.

Also it’s not clear yet why he was killed. Yeah, probably because of his political views, but it might has well be a disgruntled lover or somebody he effed over in a business deal. Who knows?

    21. Project_Rees on

We’re also not doing anything today for September 11th. Shock horror!

    22. Hotboi_yata on

Oh fuck off. He was just a american bigot with a platform.

    23. AvocadoGlittering274 on

They don’t even react when children get killed in US school shootings but want a minute of silence for a propagandist? Jfc…

    24. Acolitor on

This whole assassination is small news in Finland, just like any other shooting in US. I would believe it is the same everywhere else too.

    25. Alarming_Tip_829 on

Chuckie was vehemently against the EU, its policies and he wasn’t a citizen of a member country. He was just some right wing influencer from America. Why would EU honour a random foreign national that spun propaganda against them?

    26. No one outside the US cares about Charlie Kirk or even know who he was. It’s awful he got murdered, sure, but don’t act like he was some ultra important figure in the world.

    27. witness_smile on

He’s not a politician, he’s not an EU citizen, he’s not some hero of anything, what does his death have to do with EU. Good on the EU Parliament for not giving attention to this extremist.

There’s no outrage when the EU doesn’t hold minutes of silence every day after every new school shooting in Yankistan (and there shouldn’t be, again, it has nothing to do with the EU), so why should there for this guy who died to practicing what he preached

    28. -The_Blazer- on

      – Not EU citizen or contributor
      – Worked with governments directly hostile to the EU
      – Participated in influence operations against Denmark, an EU member state

Generally it’s uncommon for people to have minutes of silence just for point 1, but given the other two, I would argue this person should *very specifically not be recognized* in any manner shape or form.

    29. EU lawmakers shouldn’t hold minutes of silence for US influencers who get killed. It would have been somewhat appropriate when those Minnesota politicians were shot and (one of them) killed earlier this year perhaps. But influential though he was, he wasn’t a politician in a formal role.

    30. jschundpeter on

There are 140 victims of gun violence in the USA each day. Should we hold a minute of silence for all of them?

    31. PlsSuckMyToes on

American conservatives are the biggest and dumbest bitches on the planet

    32. Purple_Plus on

      Why the fuck would they?

      He’s a political commentator.

He called my country, the UK, a hellhole.

It’s incredibly sad for his family.

But it’s ridiculous that the US is flying flags at half-mast for someone who wasn’t even a politician. Did they do that for the Democrats that were gunned down? Of course not.
