Good, it costs nothing to deliver and will make a big difference to our native wildlife

I thought the net biodiversity gain was already a requirement?unless they are specifically stating hedgehog holes I don’t see what’s new.

I look forward to corporate housebuilders explaining why “Cutting a hole in the fence” and “Use a couple of hollow bricks” will mean they have to put prices up again.

My last house (a new build) had these marked on the plans when I reserved it. They were never actually installed by the time we moved in…!

I’ve got a little house in the garden filled with straw and put food and water out most nights. I’ve got a smart sensor down the side and one comes every night about 9pm and chows down.
When I’m away the sensor still goes off and I imagine the hedgehog disappointed.

My new build estate was supposed to include a hedgehog highway. Three years later it still doesn’t have one and there’s been no word about it.

I thought we were supposed to be reducing pointless regulations like this?

People moan about these “silly regs” like the bat tunnels for HS2, but they would similarly complain if man made structures resulted in these species dying out.

The House of Lords demonstrating once again it is completely unfit for purpose.
This is exactly the kind of well intentioned, banal-sounding rule that, along with thousands of similar rules, means building anything in this country is nigh impossible and housing extortionately expensive.
