Great news. Personally, I think any town with a high population density should do the same.

Most city centres should have a congestion charge, for peak times at least. With the revenue used to subsidise public transport and such. It helped transform public transport in London, most don’t realise that pre-00’s it was considerably less frequent than nowadays.

Just seems a win / win for everyone. More travel options and less being stuck in traffic for those who for one reason or another do need to drive. With exemptions or concessions for blue badge holders and a few others, of course.

as an Oxford resident I’m really looking forward to this

      >The local authority said it was needed due to traffic issues caused by the long-term closure of Botley Road, which has in turn delayed the introduction of the authority’s traffic filter scheme.

Sort that out first! Close a road for “six months”, two years later it’s still a year away from reopening. It blocks buses too, including park and ride.

Is there a map of the congestion charge zone?

    5. That’ll work a charm for the prosperity of the local economy. If I had a business that I had built and invested in, I’d be tearing my hair out

Oxford isn’t even remotely suited to cars, so I can guarantee most of the people acting like this will somehow kill the city have never been there.

The congestion charge has worked really well in London, I see no reason why it couldn’t work elsewhere.

      Why only £5?
