What a complete load of tosh. This guy is a Reform dream – he’s going to split the Marxist vote.

Poverty often exacerbates many things, like crime rates in general, but I think it’s obviously fundamentally untrue to say racism comes from poverty.

Plenty of people with more wealth than I could ever spend in a lifetime of trying are racist to the core.

“Antagonism towards migrants comes from poverty,” he says. “There are exceptions. There are people who are racist, and we can have a longer conversation about where that racism comes from, because I believe that probably comes from poverty. I think if you don’t have scarcity in your life, and if you feel safe and secure, why would you hate another person?”

Lovely left wing view, rather than listen to the poor abOut how migration has affected them, call them racist

It’s true, when the proles are suffering, the bougie need to direct their contempt towards someone other than themselves lest the proles become enlightened and revolt. An easy way to do this is to rile the people against an outgroup and blame them for the issues.

I’m not saying immigration has no malus effects on the working class, but it is greatly exaggerated by bougie agitators to divert the attention from their destruction of the living conditions of the working class.

I would be inclined to agree that is one of the causes, but not the only cause.

    6. Hanamafana on

Its the richest who get all the benefits from large amounts of immigration while its the poorest who get all the negatives.

    7. snagsguiness on

Because obviously no wealthy person ever had a shred of racism 🙄

Being left-wing yet having every left-wing politician be such a fucking divvy is so exhausting. Can we not get someone with their head screwed on properly to represent us?

    9. williamtheraven on

And the only thing you’re ever going to do is make it worse but splitting the vote so the people responsible win

    10. I have it on good word that hypnotisers are the least racists in society.. 😂

    11. tempy1256 on

Too poor to be educated out of racism, must be learnt at the knee.

Not like those much cleverer, wealthy folk whose wealth is from literally *owning* people 🙄

This guy is the nail to the coffin of the Green Party. 🙁

    13. blob8543 on

That’s an interesting view in a country where the fascist party is mostly supported by old people, who are in general terms a group not likely to be poor.

Racism is a manifestation of biological mechanisms that result from 1000s of years of evolutionary processes. As a consequence of biology, everyone has the capacity to exhibit racism to any other race. Blacks to whites, browns to black, all the intragroup and intergroup combinations are possible.

As a society, we fail to understand what racism is and adequately define it. This can also lead to confusion and people wrongly attributing racism in situations where it does not exist.

Because our minds are also programmed towards quick and dirty routes of processing, this often leads to biases in perception that wrongly conclude racism has occurred in situations that are ambigious and questionable.

What makes our biases more entrenched is social narratives based on subjective accounts of racism, constantly being regurgitated in the media. It’s endless and tiring.

We need to get better at calling this out because it’s leading to greater intragroup hostility and discohesion.

We need to get better at calling for objective data to confirm whether real racism has occurred or not.

Do I think Zack Polanski is capable of doing this? No.

    15. Verbal_v2 on

I’m assuming this theory only applies to white people or are we getting boat loads of destitute racists to contend with?

    16. Competitive_Pen7192 on

Poor persons racism is often just dumb ignorance.

Rich and powerful person’s racism is far more dangerous as they’ve intellectualised it.

The former can be challenged and dispelled, it’s far harder to do that to the latter.

The more I learn about this bloke, the more I think, he’s a bit of a wanker.

Racism is intrinsic to the human condition (tribalism)

I have noticed something about the term racist being thrown about a lot recently. I have met 2 genuine racits in my lifetime, while they were morally reprehensible, they were not ashamed of it, quite the opposite in fact, when I called them both out they were proud to say that yes, they were racist and were proud of it… my point being that calling someone a racist only works on people who aren’t racist 99% of the time, the fear of being thought of as one terrifies us.

The most racist workplace I ever had was a Russell Group University as a junior lecturer. My colleagues voted the “correct” way, but made my life and the life of every staff member of colour hell. Forget micro aggressions, some of this was straight up “I do not like people of your background” conversation. And we were the good types of immigrants. Educated and integrated and all that.

I’ve also worked with all types and lived on schemes. Had some racist comments, but not the kind of sustained campaign of hate or vitriol I experienced from rich upper middle class people with PhDs.

I’m sure there’s plenty of my former neighbours and colleagues who will vote Reform. And a lot of them live in the kind of shit hole schemes that bear the brunt of every poorly thought out government policy.

It’s a bit more complicated than “poor people racist”, which is exactly the kind of simple rhetoric the middle class likes to come out with in order to not have to listen to those dumb plebs.

More nonsense from the weird breast enhancing hypnotist. Wish he’d spend some money getting some dental work for his awful gappy crooked teeth.

    22. bertiebasit on

The worst racists I’ve ever met were at university. 3 years of passive aggressive interactions and silent treatment.

Grew up on a council estate, a few real racists…right or wrong, at least you knew what they were about.

Can’t say the same about those cunts at university.

    23. eldomtom2 on

I have no idea why people are getting angry at Polanski stating the most basic and unoriginal left-wing position imaginable.

    24. Weird-Statistician on

Tell that to Trump and Farage. Utter bollocks. Stop blaming people’s lack of money for racist behaviour, criminal behaviour etc. Some people are dicks and need to be held to account, not given a pass because they were poor.

    25. Wouldn’t fly a union jack because it’s “intimidating” but he’d go to prison for Gaza 🤷

Seemed like his “racism comes from poverty” argument wasn’t totally thought through and clumsily ended up as a sort of “poor people are dumb so rich people make them angry about immigrants” which I think shows he’s just yet *another* politician who’ll struggle to get to grips with why people oppose immigration, or at least, the way it’s being handled.

Thinks trans women shouldn’t comply with the rulings regarding gendered bathrooms, and the government are complicit on transphobia, fair enough but I think the country has bigger issues to worry about as a whole.

Surprisingly, absolutely nothing about green policies, which is probably because it’ll spook people due to the amount of taxes and spending it’ll require.

Seems like he’s going for the same crowd that Corbyn is.

Jesus. H. Christ. Green Party once again proving how accessible they are.
