This is the world we live in now. We went from B roll, and stock footage and images that were at least based on reality to now everything being AI generated because it’s cheaper and requires less effort. Computers were a mistake. Nuclear war and the resulting EMP waves might actually save us in the long run by directly killing all tech and indirectly killing the industrial scale misinformation we’re seeing

    2. Off topic, but has anyone noticed a massive increase in posts of original artwork on various subs over the last few years? I don’t remember it at all before, and now I see them every week or two. They seem to get a load of compliments and upvotes, but I just don’t see the point, when even if it’s not AI, it easily could be. I guess I’m just too cynical.

(There’s also a load of posters on the language learning subs, who have written their own app with their sister, or some other homely story)

This is the world we live in now, unless you can verify the whole chain of sources of images (even videos) back to trusted people, everything is suspect.

I don’t really see the issue here.

As Christopher Resch of Reporters Without Borders told a German newspaper when press in Gaza were caught staging photos of crowds begging for food ‘”I don’t think it’s reprehensible [when photos are staged]”. “As long as it approximates reality.”

If we’re willing to accept a photojournalist’s staged ‘approximation of reality’, why not an AI’s?
