This is absolutely grotesque and the worst thing is I’m not surprised. Everything the rich do ultimately fucks over the majority. Look at golf for instance. ‘I’m going to cordon off this huge piece of land and deny access to you, for my shit game you need to spend 5 figures a year to be a part of’. and there’s thousands of these things!

Even if Blackstone is suggesting that they are following the regulations, they’re not following the spirit of the regulations. If too much water is abstracted then the water companies will have to impose harsher water restrictions on farmers and companies, it’s best to conserve what we have for now. Besides, this billionaire can wait a few more months for the autumn and winter rains to arrive and refill his lake.

There actually aren’t any rules in the UK blocking this.
You pay for the pipes but the water is free. If you want to do this stuff the water is public property and no-one owns it so anyone can take it.
We should have an Australian system where you pay for the water but the pipes are nationalised (like national grid)

Feel free to piss on my parade, but this seems like the MD is making a decision based on morals over money here?
“It’s not right that we’re filling up a lake during a hosepipe ban” seems like a position that should be lauded?

Why is this not an automatically banned activity when hosepipe bans are enforced?

wouldn’t it take forever to fill up an entire tanker with a standpipe
