French children under 15 should be banned from social media and there should be an overnight “digital curfew” for 15-18 year olds, a parliamentary commission has recommended.
The six-month inquiry into the psychological effects of TikTok on minors has found that the short video-sharing platform “knowingly exposes our children, our young people to toxic, dangerous and addictive content”.
France is among several EU countries pushing to limit children’s use of social media. Denmark is also considering a social media ban for under-15s and Spain’s government has sent to parliament a draft law for under-16s to require their legal guardians to authorise access.
Will that stop the recruiting of new edge lords though?

As much as I agree about restricting children’s access to the internet. I cannot help but feel cynical and believe this is just an attempt to stifle the growth of right-wing parties. Just a way to stay in power.

I don’t care, my kids are not allowed to use SM as long as I’m paying.

So take away all news sources other than the ones they control? The media is the biggest enemy of the government because the media is the unfiltered truth. There are lies and propaganda but without social media we wouldn’t criticize the government nearly as much. Learn from Nepal

I can’t believe that under-15s can access internet at all and not only social media. Between coco melon shit and tik-tok, why would any allow their kids online these days? In my opinion, any screen time before 15 should be seen as child neglect. And I don’t want to hear nonsense about educational games or that learning with tablets is better than paper and pencils. Screens ruin young brains. Period.

This age related restrictions never work. Maybe we should just turn off the internet all together and start listening radio again. Nothing goes well since MSN 😞
