How have we gone from Mary Robinson, Mary McAleese, and Michael D. to the current batch of candidates? What did we do to deserve these people, the parties had 7 fucking years to prepare.

Fianna Fail really dropping the ball on their nomination in fairness. Jimmy boy calls a Genocide a ”military operation” and somehow according to MM it’s Sinn feins fault. Jim can’t even close a gate properly let alone represent the country on a global stage.

So he’s gone from last week saying ‘IDF have probably reached their military objectives’ to today saying ‘there is a genocide taking place’.
Looks like he has realised he needs to be harder on Israel around this.
I think most of the electorate are in agreement.
Does The Journal think he is pro-Israel and that is the issue?

No it hasn’t. He said nothing incorrect. Agree or disagree with people but let them talk, discuss, express themselves without sh1tting themselves or we’ll be left with no discussion in the country.

Just another example of why people with no experience of public life and speaking to media etc should not begin their experiment with a run at the Aras

I think that people are missing the forest for the trees on this one.
Israel has been able to counter genocide accusations due to their stated military objectives. That is exactly why Ireland asked the UN to slightly alter it’s definition of genocide, because this case has shown up the massive fucking loophole in it.
By stating that the military objectives have been met and the carnage is continuing, in a very roundabout way Gavin has hinted that this is a genocide even within the current unchanged definition of genocide.
I won’t be voting for Gavin, but the tunnel vision on this one is irritating.
I’ve considered this a genocide from the start because Israel’s stated military objectives (the eradication of an ideology of resistance) are inherently unachievable

To play devils advocate, hes a military man talking in military terms.
But really, I don’t know why Micháel Martin thought this would be anything but a gamble. I’d put money towards a statue of Gavin in Dublin, still needd to convince me to vote for him though.

I won’t be voting for him but I don’t think Gavin is a bad man, I think he’s probably an excellent coach and an excellent military man and that shows here in his way of thinking and expressing himself which may not resonate with an ordinary person.
I feel it’s a case like how healthcare workers use healthcare terms outside work when chatting and look at the world in that light he does the same because the military beats discipline that into you.
For this particular role though I don’t think that’s the skill one needs, you need to be excellent at expressing the voice of the nation, which a poet like Michael D ( ❤️❤️❤️) did so well. Fuck I’m gonna miss him.

Jim Gavin’s response was excellent. Israel responded to the murder of 1700 of it’s citizens (that’s half the number killed over the 30 years of the Troubles in just one day) with a military action. That action achieved it’s reasonable goals, but continuing the action is unjustified. Excellent summary by a professional military man.

He is not fit for the role. It’s ridiculous.
