      What I said [last week](https://old.reddit.com/r/unitedkingdom/comments/1ne9wwk/no_10_appointed_mandelson_despite_security/ndn0kwq/):

      >Mark my words, there will be more briefings against McSweeney soon. After all the reshuffles he will have made lots of enemies, some will no doubt know his role at getting Mandelson the job. And with the media having tasted blood twice (Rayner and Mandelson), they will try to get McSweeney down from his high horse too.

Doubt this story alone will pull McSweeney down, but let’s see if this triggers more stories or negative briefings from No 10.

Also, the way some people across the political spectrum talk about Abbott is fucking weird and disgusting

He realistically had to resign, but unless Starmer know about this conversation but did nothing then I don’t really think it affects him much.

I’ve never much liked Abbott but it’s really astonishing how many people insist on saying unacceptable things about her. It shouldn’t be that hard to stick to just criticising her politics.

Starmer’s Labour party mirrors Johnson’s Tory in a lot of ways. An elite little cabal who look down on anyone who doesnt fit ‘their type’.

Devoid of principle and vision. Simply seeking power for it’s own sake.

Frustratingly this isn’t new behaviour and over the years we’ve seen Starmer’s faction really twist their knives into Abbott and other left-leaning figures in their party. However, it really says a lot that these are the type of people that Starmer surrounds himself with.

Even if you dislike Abbott over frankly superficial reasons, this doesn’t warrant the freakish levels of abuse she gets regularly.

Are all political advisors basically obnoxious 13 year olds in adult bodies?

What the hell did he say, how can you do a story without including that

      >Ovenden’s departure deprives Starmer of one of his key speechwriters.

That can only be a good thing given the quality of his speeches.

Dianne Abbot was hanging around the Labour Party when Tony Blair was PM – these people and their baggage need clearing out and fresh thinking and ideas bringing in – it’s just the old guard getting elected over and over swapping between Tories and Labour with all the other nonsense idealists trying to chip away.

What the fuck is going on in politics that people can’t keep comments to themselves anymore.

It worries me so much that people who are politicians or aides of politicians don’t seem to understand how the political game works and that they should just shut up.

Remember the key to keeping women and children safe in Britain is to suspend peoples civil liberties to accessing content online through draconian acts like the OSA and through empowering an increasingly politically overreaching “independent” regulator instead of simply increasing vetting and checks on people in positions of responsibility like Doctors and Teachers and politicians and politicians and politicians again

People calling Abbott a moron/mad – can someone please explain why? Out of the loop.

The way she’s been treated by her own party is horrible. The labour party has gone downhill so badly under Starmer!

    14. reckless-rogboy on

Labour politicians really hate each other, don’t they?

Abbot has provided endless opportunities for legitimate criticism. But this dude has to go for some weird sex based insults. In text messages. Do these people really believe this nonsense always gets buried in the past? Why would anyone write that stuff down?

I don’t think saying unsavoury things in a private WhatsApp chat in 2017 should result in you getting the boot in 2025, to be honest. Although it says he was planning on leaving in a month anyway, so I suppose it’s easier to bring it forward than try to argue why you don’t need to.
