      I love the comments 🤣

5,000 jobs will be created, yet 500,000 lost…

… How’d you work that out?

      ChatGPT told me 🤣

There needs to be a new word for the uniquely gross feeling these tech entrepreneur types induce.

Optimistically I think it’s great having such investments from Nvidia and Microsoft.

Cynically I’m looking forward to how these AI data centers supercharges the financial and auditing services of UK to keep capitalism at it’s peak.

Also as a country that loves convenience and outsourcing, looking forward to the UK being at the forefront of AI customer service and admin technology, chat bots etc but at least I’ll be able to say it’s locally sourced!

Bloody government signing off on a bunch of AI datacentres that according to an environmental survey for one of them (the Google announced one earlier this week) – the CO2 emissions alone are equivalent to 500 short haul flights PER WEEK. That before all the water it’s slurping from areas of the south of England under domestic hosepipe bans.

The orange man baby has also made it clear he believes that his tech bros shouldn’t pay any tax here in the UK and most of the ‘long-term’ jobs will be a few hundred corporate drones babysitting the datacentre while the environment outside goes to shit.

And all for what? So people can get AI to write an email to send to someone also using AI or make some AI ‘art’? AI is great for solving big problems like cancer research etc but as it is now, the ‘next big thing’ it’s completely out of hand and our government are bending over backwards to take all the blood money they can from these big tech companies to tie us into their eco systems and avoid paying their dues.

The US is just a single country and if enough countries had the backbone and moral compass to stand up to them then they’d soon find out economically how they need the rest of the world as much as we need them.

Meanwhile in fantasy land, Elon and the MAGA brigade are trying to take over our politics from giant video screens (very ‘nineteen-eighty four’). That’s Elon the first generation immigrant and Trump the second-generation immigrant right there.

If we continue with a Labour government then we need an actual Labour government that stands for something and isn’t just doing an impression of the Tories or Reform. I think if they showed that then they’d be surprised to find out how much support they’d get and that the ‘majority’ were not part of that 150k at the weekend drinking European lager and throwing up on the monuments they purport to be protecting.

If we stood up and called out all of this now and took a stand then Trump, MAGA, Reform and their ilk could be brought down as quickly as they have risen.

I say this as a middle-aged, white male. Born in England but happily living in Wales (perhaps I’m a immigrant?) for the past 20 years and not feeling mildly threatened by the Welsh flag or language all this time unlike the weaponisation of the English flag.

In fact the number one policy for Reform in Wales, above all else wrong in this world – is to get rid of the 20mph speed limit on some of the roads and likely Nigel’s favourite of privatising the NHS. Let’s all ensure he doesn’t get the chance at next year’s Senedd elections.

I wonder what company will end up being responsible for Skynet

The huge energy consumption of these datacenters directly drives up your electricity bill btw

Great, it’s not like we have constant water shortages or days on the brink of blackouts or anything!
