Another set of rules that stop us from doing things. And it wasn‘t the Green party. That’s new.

Let people smoke. Limit where they can smoke, for all I care, and make them pay their healthcare costs themselves, but stop it with the bans. I am an adult and can decide for myself whether I want to smoke that cigar or not.

it’s always been a balancing act between pushing the taxes on smoking to the point where marginally less people will do it, but don’t push it so much that the government will miss out on that sweet tax revenue

as long as in the politics they are not willing to part with this money/increase taxes elsewhere to compensate for it, i highly doubt this roadmap will actually go anywhere

yeah let’s start by making one of the best transition tools away from tobacco so expensive that tobacco is the cheaper option 😂

If you would mind your own business, that would be great.

As a smoker, I hope this works. Wouldn’t wish this habit on anyone. Just letting you know that we smell and taste our breaths too we’re just enslaved to the impulse for whatever reason.

Improve the mental health system first before you take away peoples coping mechanisms.

Would be so cool! Lets stop this stupid drug… Kids losing their parents, Kids get destroyed and everyone has to pay the cancer therapy from smokers

Would be nice, ain’t gonna happen:

    Here is why:

    – Big Tabacco puts money into Union, AfD and FDP
    – They and their media partners Frank Gotthardt via NIUS and Döpfner via BILD and Welt will tell us why the state can’t do this… And why we can’t have a “nanny state”

    How do I know?

Well I have been there to listen to the arguments by FDP and Union in regards to the current non smoking laws in restaurants (literally in the 90s you could passive smoke and have a Big Mac at the same time…

The former minister of Justice Buschmann FDP (one of the initiators of “Offene Feldschlacht”) was when he was still general secretary of FDP in NRW the one that argued with “nanny state” against smoking in restaurants in NRW a law introduced by SPD and Green

  9. As a Spaniard living in Germany, I was honestly surprised to see how little progress has been made here regarding tobacco regulations. It feels like a big contrast: on one hand, Germany is always promoting Umweltschutz and green energy, but when it comes to public health and tobacco, the laws seem to be decades behind what we already have in Spain.
The number of young people smoking is striking, and working in a hospital, it’s even more shocking to see some patients light up shortly after an operation. Even around schools, smoking still feels very present.
I don’t say this as criticism from “outside,” but more as someone who truly hopes things can change for the better. The potential benefits are huge for health, for society, for the healthcare system. I just hope that someday people here will wake up to how important this is.
