This photo depicts a historic event from September 19, 1991, when citizens of Belgrade gathered to enthusiastically bid farewell to columns of Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) tanks headed toward Vukovar, Croatia. Many saluted with the symbolic Serbian three-finger gesture and threw flowers on the tanks, expressing public support for the military operation aimed at suppressing Croatian independence and fulfilling the vision of a Greater Serbia. What happened nextJust days after this send-off, the JNA and Serbian paramilitary forces launched a brutal siege of Vukovar that lasted for nearly three months. The city was surrounded and relentlessly shelled, resulting in the near-total destruction of Vukovar’s infrastructure and thousands of civilian casualties. On November 18, 1991, Vukovar fell; numerous war crimes were committed, including the infamous Vukovar massacre at Ovčara, where hundreds of prisoners were executed. The battle exhausted the JNA and marked a turning point in the Croatian War of Independence, but the consequences for Vukovar and its residents were devastating—most of the non-Serb population was expelled, and the city remained deeply divided for decades afterward.

it’s totally heartbreaking seeing what people had to go through back in the day. Too much history, too much pain. We need to really remember this stuff, ya know? Can’t let the world forget.

The three raised fingers don’t represent fascism. They symbolize the Holy Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – in the Orthodox tradition. Trying to equate that with a fascist salute is just misinformation. If we’re comparing salutes, Croats historically used something much closer to the ‘Sieg Heil’ than Serbs ever did.

Isn’t this scene depicted in “Lepa sela lepo gore”?

Three finger salute comes from Serbian uprising against Ottomans, not from chetniks. It is basicaly used by every Serbs and doesn’t depict any ideology.

One important thing: three-fingers represent orthodox faith(god, father and son) and because some serbian paramilitaries(including one who commited various war crimes against humanity) used it doesn’t mean it’s fascist. They’ve been used on anti-government protests and anti-war protests in 1990s in Belgrade and they’re used recently on student protests.
I can understand croats and bosniaks for hating it but understand that those three fingers were mentioned in “gorski vjenac” by Petar Petrović Njegoš(written in 19th century)

How ironic that croatian guy calls Serbs fascist when croatian ustashe crimes on serbs where even too extreme for Nazi’s and Hitler to approve/support. Just google [https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ustashe](https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ustashe) .

Btw i believe it was Serbia’s fault mainly for 90s, but please get a life, posting this shows you are angry and bored, close-minded and full of hatred
