Good luck to those with electric cars and heat pumps.
I’ll stick with petrol and kerosene.

As another poster says, it’s very convenient that this is all happening before the budget. They seem to be trying to force another round of energy credits

Spare a thought for the poor board members whose profits just aren’t great enough yet. Imagine we lived in a country where the state (a competent one) was in control of basic necessities like power, public transport, health, bins etc… and they could run them off a not for profit principle and citizens would then have more disposable income to spend in the economy and not get screwed by private companies for shit they can’t live without.

Wholesale cost of electricity down since Jan and this is what happens… If you ever wanted evidence that all these energy suppliers are in cahoots with each other… This recent price hike is it…

What’s actually driving this? The price of gas seems to have been generally falling or had been more stable than even it spiked during the early stages of the Ukraine war.
Seems like the Irish market hasn’t really benefited from moving away from the single vertically integrated supplier model we had since the 1920s. Prices seem to be going up and up without any strategic planning as to how they’ll be driven down
I mean, yeah, it’s easy to just go “booo! Big corporations” but the Irish entities are all rather small, price takers on the global markets.
Something’s just not working in the interest of ensuring we have affordable, sustainable energy.
I’d like to see some in depth economic analysis of this because it’s not really good enough to just keep wringing our hands about it – it’s causing serious issues and making the country uncompetitive.
Press commentary is generally very superficial and seems uninformed. I’d like to see a report from an energy economist or someone who can really dig into it.

They’re all just getting in ahead of the budget, and taking it in turns. It’ll be another next week.
It’s a bit like something I saw yesterday, Circle K were offering 20c a litre off diesel and petrol all day yesterday, and my local increased it by 10c overnight so they’d cash it. Absolute greed.

Also no exit fee. Worth switching over, if they also wheel out a price increase you can leave straight away

this is what happened when they (ESB) were forced to stop being a semi state body and become “competitive”, the profits became more important than the service. They weren’t cheap but they also couldn’t gouge like this.
There should be massive protests outside their offices, people should not just be taking it.

How many more reasons do we need for our government to reform State-owned ESB from a for-profit/commercial company into a non-profit company??
Imagine if, instead of €700-800m profit each year given to government as dividends (the most regressive form of taxation possible), that money was used to lower prices for all Electric Ireland customers – with the aim of a non-profit ESB reducing prices as much as possible.
Not only that, but all the competing private energy companies would be forced to reduce their prices and profits in order to compete, multiplying the gains for everyday workers, carers, and small businesses.

This is not on providers really, even though I hate to accept the fact. Here is the email Flogas sent with explanation:
The CRU only recently finalised details of the electricity network cost changes approved by them which will be implemented by all Energy suppliers from October 1st 2025, to Sept 30th 2026. Unfortunately, while the PSO charges are reducing, network charges are increasing this year and will impact your unit rates and standing charge from October 17th. While the “energy” element of your rate with us is fixed for 18 months the regulated network charges (non-energy) are variable and are adjusted annually in line with CRU approved changes. We have outlined the increases in the table below:
