Europe wealthiest man does not want the ultra rich to be taxed

    2. PoppedCork on

Rich man threatens French economy if he has to pay more into it.

    3. hmtk1976 on

I so feel for this poor, poor man.

Tbh wealth taxes are risky for individual countries. They should be introduced EU wide.

    4. I swear being a billionaire should be classified as a mental illness of some kind.

No single human needs that amount of money and no one will change my mind on this. And yes, I understand that the money is not cash, but assets, but still. Just remember – a million seconds is 11 days, but a billion seconds is 31 years. And this guy sits at 170bn and cries over 2%. Absolutely pathetic. This is just hoarding and makes them so far removed from reality that it’s not even funny.
This is an absolutely INSANE amount of money, and also gives you an insane amount of power and influence over all sorts of things. This is not normal, but I am not sure if that class of people can be stopped anymore.

I feel for the guy. I’d be sad too if I had $169 billion and had to give 1 billion to the government. It’d take me a whole month to make that kind of money back. Unacceptable. Thoughts and prayers go out to all the ultra rich people out there.

      Eh. Let’s try it.

If the rich cunts bugger off, someone will replace them eventually, and I am okay with it being a small business or a cooperative of small businesses.

It’s not like these rich cunts spend or invest locally anyways.

Tax them 90% and redistribute to lower and middle class so they can travel and party more

Well only one way we’ll find it really, it’s beginning to look like. Hope taxing unrealised gains doesn’t spread further

I would like him to describe in detail what kind of tangible effect this wealth tax would have on his standard of living.

    10. I’m willing to take that risk.. perhaps we could vote on this crazy idea?!

    11. Also, the guy who’s accumulated wealth amounts to 4 MILLION years of average gross income in France.

    12. medicsansgarantee on

The Socialists want a 2 % wealth tax on the ultra rich, but the rich resist, and the French government still faces a deficit problem, so it has to find revenue somewhere.

A simple solution could be to offer zero or very low tax on assets held in French bonds, or a reduced rate for investments in France.

This approach would reduce capital flight. But should start with 2% to squeeze the rich a bit first huhuh

Poor rich people have to pay tax

I feel so bad for them.

Let me play them the world smallest violin.

      >Arnault – previously the world’s richest man – claimed that a 2% wealth tax would be an “offensive, which is deadly for our economy”. He also said he was “certainly the largest individual taxpayer and one of the largest professional taxpayers through the companies I run” in France.

Dude is worth £125 billion and is crying a 2% increase on taxes will somehow destroy the economy. He wouldn’t even feel it.

    15. radish-salad on

because defunding schools and hospitals and forcing more people to work way past their body’s limits and making people who have less to sacrifice more is better? stfu bernard arnault

    16. freecodeio on

hey man if taxing the ultra rich 2% is deadly for this economy maybe this economy needs to fucking die

    17. Apprehensive-Fig5774 on

We’ve tried taxing everyone and everything and nothing changed. The French state can’t help it. It will overspend.
Taxing the ultra-rich won’t solve France’s deficit problem.

    18. Lord-Glorfindel on

Conflating what’s good for his own bottom line with what’s good for France as a whole is pretty rich. Everywhere these billionaires amass wealth and power, the people inevitably become poorer and less free.

    19. fekoffwillya on

Tax them, if they threaten to leave let them go. If they’re a citizen of the country and they leave to avoid taxes seize all property they leave behind to cover the taxes they aren’t laying. Remove all benefits they’d receive as a citizen. They’ll soon come back…especially if it becomes the rule of the EU. Where are they going to go?

    20. Universal_Anomaly on

      Then we’re screwed.

We can’t afford to let the wealth inequality keep growing but apparently trying to shrink it will destroy the economy.

He’s saying that because he or his subsidiary’s own large % of critical infrastructure / social services that will 100% be increasing the price to cover the tax.

    23. Unfazed_Alchemical on

Seize all his material assets, his stocks, shares, houses, cars, yatchs, everything. Put all of it into the public coffers.

Let’s just try it. Perform an experiment. See if it doesn’t improve life.

    24. OsgrobioPrubeta on

I still remember when the Notre Dame fire almost destroyed it and he came publicly announcing donating 200 millions for the recovery. It created an outrage because he pays low taxes, his workers were angry because he always argues that can’t pay more, and because it would be a tax deductable donation from LVMH Group.
