So is the russia attacking peaceful countries, abducting children, committing war crimes and countless other atrocities committed by the russian regime. Isn’t it fair enough that they’ll pay for the crimes they committed and the rebuilding of what they destroyed?

    2. Dry-Piano-8177 on

You mean the international law that russia broke when they started invading Ukraine?

    3. It’s beyond me why they haven’t assessed the damage Russia’s caused Ukraine so far and taken that to court, and seized Russian assets accordingly. That’s fully in line with international law.

    4. InstanceDry7848 on

Conviniently cherry picking when to follow international law!

    5. EuroFederalist on

People don’t understand how damaging it would be for Europes economics.

Nothing to worry about, you have to know what you want 🥹👍

    7. All well and good, but got to admit Russia is exploiting the shit out of it’s opponents actually respecting laws xD

It’s also against the law to kill someone except there’s a law for capital punishment.

Every decision this guy makes all points to the same place. Just another corrupt leader.

Macron spends so much time talking tough but doing absolutely nothing…

Well when everything is burning and fascists are marching through the rubble we can pat ourselves on the back of how fucking tolerant we all were 🤡

Basically the same as Russian warcrimes are not answered with Ukrainian war crimes – in accordance with the Geneva conventions.

Or more poetically: To succumb to darkness is becoming darkness.

We could keep the assets on hold while Russia keeps being a hypocritical dick, with a total disregard for “Western values” while benefiting the same Western values, and because of (according to their own standards -perhaps change the law for a successor and ones own benefit) illegitimate russian presidency. 5th term now?

It has never been done before in history and there have been countless massacres, why would they open this pandora’s box?

Every foreign investment could quickly leave if Europe do this kind of things.

    14. Borrow the money until a western leaning government replaces Putler.

There is no law if it can’t be enforced and only one side respects it. European leaders want to stay in their comfortable post cold war bubble so they don’t have to face the reality we live in.

    16. There is not international law if only one side respects it while the other side pisses all over it. Also where is this international law bs when it comes to Israel literally burning Palestine to the ground?

I am so tired of this hypocrisy jesus

    17. Nebuladiver on

Aren’t these assets connected to criminal activity and isn’t it normal to seize such assets?

Is Russia adhering to international law?

    18. Helios0186 on

Russia doesn’t have the same respect for international laws so nothing wrong in seizing their assets.

What are the stakes? What is the reach of oligarch money in Europe? What are the economic impacts of said money? Where would this money go if not for the greatest rule-of-law abiding bloc in the world? Would the US really prove an alternative with their current meltdown and taste for sanctionning everithing and everyone?

As for Macron’s stance, would it be also a no to a plan to use of russian funds as loans to Ukraine, to be repaid after the war ends in exchange for reparations from russia to ukraine? Meaning that the eventual recovering of the assets would be tied to russian accountability?

    20. Big_Combination9890 on

And how many fucks did ruzzia give about international law when they invaded Ukraine?

    21. From the comments I see that the ones that want Euro the world’s reserve currency are also in favor of seizing the assets of another country. Imagine the high trust investors will have in Europe 😂

    22. Connect-Idea-1944 on

all that yap about making Europe Stronger, macron like money too much, greedy ass

look at his tan, he spends his time having fun on Beach-front Mansions in Monaco instead of working

Things like International payment system must be free from any intervention and interference. It must be a global good and not a tool wielded by a single country to be used for leverage or coercion or blackmail.

Today Russia’s assets are seized, Tommorow US can do this to any country they desire to put pressure in order achieve their desired outcomes .This is the exact trigger that made Central banks buy maximum gold to derisk themselves from any uncertainties.

Even Afghanistan’s assets are seized by US and most definitely will be used to negotiate to re enter in Bagram airbase.

    24. SuperCarla74 on

Yeah, I’m sure “respect for international law” is the real reason.

I’m sure it’s that and not because the result would be every other billionaire would immediately take their money out of French banks and dump every French investment fund and go to safer pastures.

    25. blueberry_cupcake647 on

Respect for international law? Really? International law clearly doesn’t exist anymore, Israel confirmed that fact.

    26. On a practical level it’s something you can threaten often but can only do once.

I’m absolutely in favour of seizing those assets. But it’s wise to be strategic about it.

    27. Ok_Photo_865 on

It might be different if Russia, in ANY way was showing HE respects international law. Somewhere we need to cut the garbage loose and let it get shredded!

    28. FireFireoldman on

Like Russia isn’t violating every international law possible with sabotage and disinformation in EU and beyond.

    29. Man, the *collective West* really seems to be shitting their pants on the thought of *de-dollarization* (and, consequently, *de-euroization*).
Just deal with it. It’s over whether you seize those funds or not; so might as well.

    30. ilikebiiiigdicks on

It’s not respectful of international law to let others brazenly exploit it.
