Would be fascinating, but tragic, to sit down and talk with a parent that never bothered to toilet train a 4 year old.
The thought process, or lack thereof, must be something to behold.
And, yeah, the country’s lack of standards and consequences for child abuse will doom us all.

Does the person saying this, a certain Miss Key-Skills, have Qualified Teacher Status…?

I don’t doubt that there’s some lousy parents that want to palm it off to the school. Although quite why… I mean I got my kids toilet trained asap – I mean who the absolute fuck wants to keep nappies for a minute longer than necessary? Hardly the best part of parenting…
However… My daughter is a Year Two Early Career Teacher, so new to the job. She’s taught Year 1 last year and Reception Year this year (so her experience is 4-6 years of age) and has been astonished by the lack of toilet training and nappy-wearing. However, she does say that the parents on the whole seem competent and are aware, and embarrassed, about the issue. She’s at a loss to explain it.
My nephew was wetting the bed until 9 years old and I work with a guy whose 7-year-old is still in nappies and he’s a very good parent. He’s baffled by it too and is desperate to resolve it.
