Nah, just get the workers to pay for it. Pay up worker bees.

They tried to cut costs and the typical Labour purity test started in the back benches.
Now we have to borrow more resulting in higher repayment costs to cover things we can’t afford. Taxes will rise at some point to cover it, people will go further to parties like Reform.
It’s funny because the best opposition to Labour everytime is themselves.

Would anyone honestly be opposed to a tax rise if we saw meaningful change?
Unfortunately they have no moves left with the crazy pledge of no tax rises.
The attempt to tax companies seems to have failed causing unemployment and any meaningful gains have been swallowed up by failing to cut costs.

How much of said inflation is “ripoff Britain”? Companies taking advantage of the situation to inflate their margins have to be made to pay.

That’s fine, because it’s all being driven by wage growth!

Government inflation figures are absolute BS, costs are going up faster than they report, and wages slower.
We need a party which will deliver actual change.
Now the Greens have a leader who seems more focused on real issues e.g. nationalising key utilities, then crazy policies like nuclear disarmament, they may be an actual option. Labour and the Conservatives certainly aren’t.

Imagine a nation that put a trade barrier around themselves to raise costs on imported good. How silly would that be? Ah yes, Brexit the gift that keeps on giving.

Any more tax rises on companies will probably send the UK into a recession, how can we see growth when almost every bill is increasing and wages are stagnating.

They got many things wrong in Covid and many right. Quite a usual set of circumstances that most governments would have messed up in some ways.
Yes debt kept increasing, until the deficit is eliminated it will keep going up. People moaned endlessly about “austerity” but even 9 years of that failed to eliminate the deficit. Covid pops up and undone everything overnight.
I am well aware the deficit left in 2010 was a left over from the financial crash. Made worse by the fact Labour had run a budget deficit for years before when the economy was doing well.
Deficits are easy to ramp up, very hard to get back under control.

Lots of blaming govt here. But what are they supposed to do to actually reduce inflation?

The media and economics:
Monday: inflation falling
Tuesday: highest growth in the G7!
Wednesday: your money is now worthless
Thursday: inflation steady
Friday: UK now getting financial support from Mali
It’s not just different media outlets, the story changes *by the day*.
Maybe everyone should hold off on numbers until they’re sure?

You’re incorrect my good fellow. Because there was a global financial crash that you haven’t accounted for in your working out. Also, when labour left power the NHS did not have any waiting lists. QED your argument is null and void.
I thank you.

Inequality is the problem, have to stop taxing income and start taxing assets, Mr Billionaire who owns chunks of London pays less tax than me, just not morally correct imo.
Unless any political party addresses this then they are all tinkering at the edges.
Looking out across the channel to blame others for the poor governance they are providing.
While the middle class disappear and we’re divided to super rich or poor.
Bleak vote Green the only majorish party talking about this issue.
