Yes, yes, yes! NI is dumb tax. Their sooner we abolish it the better. The Tory proposal to abolish it was the only decent taxation policy that came out of the both major parties last election.
There is absolutely no reason why landlords, pensioners and savers should be paying less tax on their income than workers (Nurses, teachers, engineers, etc).
A thinktank’s opinion on what Reeves should do … not sure sure how thats news, since we know she won’t put up working taxes.
The idea that there’s fair competition between businesses with a turnover under 90K and megacorps is laughable. If anything we should be increasing the VAT threshold for businesses to level the playing field. Unlike Amazon a 500K revenue business can’t afford expensive accountants to dodge tax.
90k is barely enough to hire a 2nd person they have 0 economies of scale.
If Reeves was to cut NI and raise income tax, she could maintain taxes have not risen on workers, and cover any fiscal deficit, and shift the tax burden onto the retired.
She’d be an all time GOAT.
Could easily see Granny tax returning to the headline with this one. As much as I like it as a move, it will be sold a big negative by the media.
So bored of articles about what some think tank or other wants.
Wake me up when there’s news about what’s she’s *going* to do, not when some group of irrelevant nobodies on the payroll of god knows who claims they have it solved.
NI needs to go. Workers shoulder too much of the burden, and unearned incomes should at *least* face tax parity with labour.
More than likely a tax increase on workers earning over 50k as there’s no way they’d bring their NI contributions down to 0%
Here’s a better suggestion – scrap NI and fold the whole thing into income tax. It is needlessly confusing to have 2 taxes on income.
Nah she’ll never do that.
Don’t ever tell her that sometimes cutting tax rates actually increases the tax receipts.
It might just blow her mind and we can’t be having that.
