* The number of recorded crime incidents for most offence groups fell in the year to Quarter 2 (Q2) 2025 compared with the same period in 2024. The most notable decreases were for crime incidents of Homicide & Related offences (-42%), Kidnapping & Related offences (-16%), and Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences (-14%).
* In contrast, there were increases in the number of crime incidents of Sexual offences (+17%), Public Order & Other Social Code offences (+6%), Attempts/Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences (+4%), and Weapons & Explosive offences (+4%).
* Recorded crime incidents fell across all Garda regions for three of the 14 offence groups in the year to Q2 2025. These were Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences, Kidnapping & Related offences, and Damage to Property & to the Environment offences.
* The number of victims of crime incidents of Attempts/Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences remain virtually unchanged at 6,101 in Q2 2025 compared with Q2 2024. The number of male victims rose by 2% and the number of female victims fell by 3%. While there were changes in the number of male and female victims within the different age groups, the overall age profile of male and female victims has remained relatively stable for the Q2 period since 2022.
Even though I’m dubious about how crime data is collected in Ireland, I have to say that covid really has a lot to answer for. The spike in crime afterwards was truly staggering.
It just goes to show that we all need to go and talk to people in real life.
The havoc isolation has on people’s mental health was enormous.

There is no doubt the percentage of public order offences is higher, but less and less people are bothering to report them as there is rarely any resolution or justice.

Recorded crime is hardly a reflection of actual crime. Especially when a lot of people never report due to the gards not being able to do anything.

In this thread, a ton of people who want you to think the Gardai were historically the beacon of integrity in Ireland, who everyone trusted to respond to every crime reported, and only in recent years did their reputation take a hit so much so that people stopped reporting crimes.

Amusing watching cowards try and claim crime really is up and they’re not just losers afraid to leave their bedrooms.

There is no way theft and burglary is down. People just given up reporting it

Organised crime is down, and unorganised crime is up then?

You’d wonder just how far off the mark of true crime these figures are.
On the one hand you have a well-documented history of the Gardai outright fabricating statistics, and on the other hand you have many people who are unwilling to report/pursue crime because of how ineffective the justice system is at dealing with it. Between them I’d say the true is massively higher than what is actually reported.
