I have a ton of respect for Ahmad Al Sharaa. He is systematically transforming a country from terrorist state to a functional and representative government that establishes new patterns of trade and values in a single generation. While at the same time forgiving former enemies and subverting assassins within his own country.
There’s not a ton of precedent for this but unfortunate as it is, history would tell us that efforts like these typically fail and he certainly won’t be perfect, but if he succeeds in this he may go down as the most important leader in Syrian history, and that is a very long history.
