All round good news provided supply can keep up with demand. theoretically this is one of those policies that should pay for itself…

And of course because of the demand nurseries charge extra for the higher earners that don’t benefit from childcare. So not only paying 60% tax and subsidising anyone, then paying that again in terms of higher fees at nurseries. Amazing

For comparison the cost of full time childcare in Denmark is equivalent to about £400 pcm. As a result, >90% of mothers return to the workplace after giving birth (65% fulltime). In the UK it’s 75% back to work in some capacity but less than 24% return to full time work.

This is one of those things where whether you have nippers or not its good to see
My only concern is we’re seeing too many venues close, (not just bad ones but good ones) due to local funding issues, which really needs looking at because those places don’t stay shut for long, they get snapped up/re-opened privately
Also got to stop looking at the profession as babysitting aside from actual early learning they do a pretty important job in regards to childrens wellbeing prior to going into the education system

Can someone explain to me why it isn’t cheaper to just pay the mothers to stay at home?

The prices here are mad. It’s like the UK is desperately trying to make people not have kids.
