Misleading. The University has paused the teaching of a module due to low uptake. This is common, happens every year across every University. The students will be shuffled onto other appropriate modules. Every University has a boilerplate “We may reserve the right to withdraw or alter modules, programmes or parts of programmes at any time.” disclaimer.

Edinburgh like many Unis is skint its not the only under subscribed course that got the axe, students who enrolled onto it were moved within the faculty to other courses.

National newspapers spinning the wheel on what they’re going to do for their daily anti-trans outrage bait headline, landing on a university module that had low uptake. Quality journalism, definitely nothing else worth talking about going on in the country right now.

    4. Module cancelled due to low uptake, and this was poorly communicated to students. On one hand a non-story, as this is a fairly normal thing to happen (the cancelling, not the poor comms).

On the other hand, this is kind of a story too. At our place the threshold for cancelling modules is now much lower because of underfunding. This means the variety of topics students are able to study, especially around work in cutting edge research areas where staff are truly expert, is much lower. This, in turn, means one of the great things about universities, the opportunity to really deep dive into the bits you care about as a student, is being lost. And that’s sad.

I mean if you have to do a course on it, perhaps you’re not queer or trans?

Can’t everyone just be whatever the fuck they want to be without having to label it? If you wanna be a woman and be called Debbie, that’s fine. It’s no hardship for me.

    6. So a student would be paying around £2500 for the privilege of attending that module?

Diversity is one thing, spending 2500 quid on this module is another.
