How surprising in a jail. The thing that keeps me out of jail is not just the loss of liberty but knowing it’s likely I’ll spend my time fearing violence and bullying whilst in.
The population continuously voted for 14 years of inept, incompetent, and malicious Tory government. What did everyone expect?
Prisons are places where violence is rewarded, and emotions and caring are weaknesses. They just reinforce and consolidate negative behaviours and attitudes, leading to reoffending and further suffering by all concerned.
I guess the question is: do we want these kids to break this cycle and go onto become more productive members of society, or are we okay with them becoming career criminals? Or (more likely) are we going to do shit all about this and then complain at the totally predictable outcome?
