Unfortunately, if you found the appartment through a real estate agency, or a website where the agencies manage property like Spitogatos, this is considered the norm. Two rents up front is standard practice almost everywhere. When it comes to the real estate agent fee, there are cases where you can avoid it, like if you came in contact with the owner directly, but in many instances this fee is expected, even though I personally find it very stupid.

It’s not okay but yes it’s very normal. It’s how it works most of the time.

Don’t listen to the guys here suggesting not to pay. They may be a bit out of touch. It’s unfortunately very normal nowadays that the agency asks for a whole rent as a fee for “helping you finding a house”. They also take one rent from the house owner. I’ve even heard of cases where they ask two rents as a fee from the renter.
So, if you did use an agency, they showed you the house etc.. (which is very common, most of the owners use such agencies) then just pay. Otherwise they are going to threaten you with legal action (ask me how I know)

While it is two rents up front, one goes to the agency, the other goes for the deposit. So, when you leave, if everything is fine you can get it back. Also, the rent starts with the start of the contract, so every rent is expected (in you case) at the start of each month. You pre-pay the rent of the following month in housing.

You find flat with 250rent???
Where? how many sqm?
Yeah if you find flat via estate agent you pay him 1 rent
2nd 250 is 1 rent for warranty
And the 3rd is your month rent.

Don’t fret. It’s quite normal. The deposit you will probably get it back. Here in the UK they are trying to deduct 200 quid of my deposit for 2 scuff marks in the walls. That would never happen in Greece.

Also if you ask to see the house, some of these real estate employees take about 10-20 euros to show you the house, as a pay for this small service, but then they say if you rent the house this amount is gonna be deducted from their payment. This is also normal for them. They do it because they show many houses to many people every day, so they don’t want their work to be lost. I just tell you in case you also inquire.

What do you mean? Its super normal in most countries… 1 rent as guarantee and 1 rent the on going (to the owner) aka 2 months rent infront.
Real estate agent gets 1 rent as payment for finding you the house, if you used a real estate agent.

It is common to pay one or two rents in advance + agency/agent fee and the agent fee is usually equal to the rent.
Just make sure to remember you prepaid your first and x amounts of rents and preferably pay through a banking app so it is all recorded somewhere

Yes, the estate agent is paid the agreed monthly fee, one monthly fee is paid for deposit and all rents are paid in advance, for example you pay on October 1st the rent for October/1-October/31.
But when you are going to leave, the last payment happens 2 months before you leave (because of the deposit)
The only extra fee is for the estate agent, if you think about it. Just you pay in advance 2 months of rent, which will be saved at the end of the lease.
