Rest in peace, we probably did not share anything in common in terms of political beliefs but anybody who was working on the peace process is a hero in my eyes. I can’t imagine how hard that was

Sad news. A real intellect and a great contributor to the peace process.

Oh my goodness, may he rest in peace.
Had occasion to engage with him through work, yonks ago, and he really got things done though they’d have been way beneath his usual fare.
Definitely not the worst of ‘em, and he made an enormous contribution to the peace process. You’d miss men and women in politics who’d this personal heft.

I’m sorry to hear that. He did a lot behind the scenes that helped to facilitate the peace process. He was an intellect and a great character too – always seemed like a decent guy on Vincent Browne’s show – well able for the banter! RIP and my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I would really like to see a gigantic list of all key figures of the peace process because the way it’s used in reporting seems to be if you were in politics at all around the time you were pivotal to the peace process. Well cept if your in sinn fein according to the papers

He had a thing of going, “Errrrrrr”. I think it was conscious and intended to prevent others interjecting while he gathered his thoughts. It certainly worked but it did make him difficult to listen to. That was a shame because the content was substantial and interesting, even if many people might disagree with it. Its not a trick I’d suggest anyone should emulate but now its gone its sad we won’t hear it again.
