Is Starmer a Redditor, perhaps, it would have been nice if he could articulate his views on mass migration & his strategy to bring about a sustainable immigration policy.

      He failed to do this.

It would have also been nice if he could address what will happen to the 300k+ people who have already arrived via boat – the majority of whom will be granted indefinite leave to remain.

      He failed to do this.

What needs to be established first is whether these individuals will have their case re-processed and lose this right, with efforts made to deport or are we going to have an amnesty that allows the majority to stay regardless.

But yes, let’s use the word racist liberally to avoid discussions on difficult topics and scrutiny.

    2. More name calling and blaming others. He seems to forget the responsibility is with him to take action.

So the start of the labour conference is about reform. It might be better to make it about the future and the solutions to the problems therein.

Racist? Well, if that’s the case, Farage should naturally face jail time under the Equality Act 2010.

If wealth inequality is called the politics of envy then migrant flows should be called the politics of scapegoating

Every single school should have immigration actually explained to them to understand why it’s a thing

A tldr: our neoliberal economic and democratic system came to be due to need to benefit from capitalism to help with a social state that supports it’s people and make a broad middleclass that can have pretty good quality of life.

The way this quality of life is achieved is with a mix of redistributive taxation and social policies and an exploitation of cheaper labour

This cheaper labour either has to happen domestically which means that people are pulled down into the working class and have piss poor pay or rights. This means reversal of education initiatives to upskill the young and essentially push people into workhouses like Victorian England had.

The alternative to cheaper labour domestically is cheaper foreign labour.

Back when we were in the EU we would have people come in work for 5 years make their money and pay taxes here and then go back to their home countries to buy a house.

Their shitty pay here bought a lot back home.

The other way is that high and low skilled foreign workers would accept abysmal local pay in the UK to be able to raise their children in the UK and help step them up on the economic ladder to be slightly higher standing and they get what they parents didn’t get.

When Brexit happened the option for staying for 5 years and leaving went away so people ended up opting for permanent residency if they can get it because they don’t know how secure it is for them to be in the UK. It made people feel they gotta be inside the UK.

We have a huge influx of post Brexit Indians coming in because the Tory party knew that migrant labour is essential for the economy.

It can’t run without some level of exploitation

So either you exploit your own domestically through decreased workers rights or you exploit foreign labour but they have the opportunity for upward mobility for their kids as a result.

The thing that can alleviate this is finding a way to increase the amount of taxation from areas of the country not absorbed to curtail asset price increases and help make quality of living for the middle class better. And to reinvest in infrastructure.

We are not like the US. Their taxation is pretty low compared to ours. Even when accounting for their healthcare system being so bad for the poorest they have much more disposable income

We have high taxes on our working people that they don’t have as much of. We have this to help with the social services and infrastructure.

But successive governments have not invested when they should and it was cheap, and are in debt now.

The people in work cannot take tax hikes in the way Americans potentially could. Henry’s may be targeted though they shouldn’t be. Henry is a high earner from their main income but not really a huge asset holder.

Immigration is integral to how a modern country works and to be able to have a broad middleclass.

You need social and economic mobility, you need grunts that have opportunities that make them work hard and you need the wealthiest to support the system so it isn’t all shouldered by the middleclass.and single high earners

Without immigration out standard of living would have to drop considerably.

Wages wouldn’t go up we would have rolling empty sectors where essentially laws would be suspended to get cheap labour in to fill them.

We aren’t at that place yet where automation can do everything

And his knuckle dragging gesture of recognising Palastine with no effective effort to stop Israel, and get HAMAS to return any still breathing hostages or their corpses of those diseased is what?

How can people such as him sit every morning at their breakfast table and go to bed at night next to their spouses with a clear mind.

Is this really the best Labour has to offer. He’s not even a good public speaker.

And yet a few months ago Starmer was saying we’d become an island of strangers. And didn’t his Home Secretary extend the period by which one would qualify for IDLtR. Does he have any opinions of his own?

    9. Casualview on

Labour need to get a firm control of immigration or voters won’t care what you call them, we’ve been hearing these accusations for years and they dont have the same impact anymore.

Ok so reforms racist and immoral, but it seems like labours against how they convey their message than reforms actual message.

Id quite like a labour govt that actually stood against them, rather than just copying their homework in nicer font.
