Thats weird. They’ve changed the question. It used to offer customers the chance to let the cooling off period expire before starting the switching process.

I’d flag that with the CRU.

  2. I am not sure that is even how a cooling off period works. Surely it is intended to be that within my first two weeks of starting with a new utility I can leave with no penalty.

We do the same with bank loans and other similar arrangements – they do not withhold service until the expiry of the cooling-off period?

From bonkers own page: [What is an energy cooling-off period? | bonkers.ie](https://www.bonkers.ie/guides/gas-electricity/what-is-an-energy-cooling-off-period/)

“You have the right to cancel your contract within 14 calendar days from the day your switch is fully completed.”

Seen that myself and thought it was completely illegal. That’s not a cooling off period. It’s just a delay signing up. Idea is if the service is shit, you have 2 weeks to change your mind.

It’s through bonkers aswell yes? They have been sneaky through the years aswell.

Had an odd situation last year where we signed up to prepay power at the door, within 1 week we blew through 150 credit so we used the cooling off period and signed up with electric ireland – however it turns out that you can only change electricity supplier every 28 days so for a month we were getting bills off 3 different companies. It all worked out in the end but they should really match the cooling off period with the 28 days
