I feel so sorry for his parents, a completely preventable outcome if people did their jobs properly. I cannot imagine their anger and devastation at the death and then on top being told it was a mistake that caused it
Sorry for this kid, but did the family challenge the result while he was still alive? Seems to me that it would be pretty easy for the University to identify a mistake like this.
I blame our culture in schools for this. WAY too much onus is placed on “get good GCSEs, get A Levels, go to University” from about Year 8 if the kids look academic enough.
It’s now led to a ridiculous over-saturation of degrees in the workplace, and way too many people thinking they need a degree when often it makes sod all difference, and in many other cases should make sod all difference.
The fact that it was so drummed into this guy that he thought suicide was the only option even if he really had failed the course, is shameful and society needs to change.
I can sympathise having had multiple failures like this and worse across years. It’s not easy and they don’t always make things easy to challenge
I can never wrap my head around people who kill themselves over situations like this which are not remotely life-ending. I suspect he had bigger problems.
This is a very extreme reaction to being told this news even if it was true. I suspect there is more to this poor young man’s mental health than anyone was aware of. Absolute tragedy, another number to add to the catastrophic male suicide statistics for men under 50. As a survivor of multiple attempts, my heart goes out to his family and friends. Just so sad.
Jeez, just let them all pass. They’ve paid enough, and it’s not like there’s any graduate jobs anyway.
