The Communist Party of Ireland want to retain the United States have a veto over sovereign Irish decisions.
I’d never thought we’d see it but here we are.

Every time I read the communist party’s website I’m reminded of an old Russian joke.
The state lied about the benefits of communism.
Little did we suspect they told the truth about the evils of capitalism.

Wait, doesn’t a presidential election go against the values of a communist?

How many CPI members are there, genuinely? Not being facetious, very curious.

A friend of mine was pretty active in a couple of the communist groups a handful of years ago. Active in the sense he would go to meetings, not like he was out there canvassing.
The stalwart and consistent members of these groups, which are by definition “workers” groups, did not have jobs anyone would recognise as being what communism is supposedly designed to represent. Not a factory worker, tradesman, auto worker, labourer, health care worker, train driver etc among them. Entirely populated by students, professional activists, out of work people, and a handful of retail and food industry employees that, while still workers, were probably not in those industries for their life, and not exactly who Marx or Engels had in mind.
They’re a bit hard to take seriously when the people they’re nominally supposed to be the champions of haven’t a fucking clue who they are, let alone care.

Glad that they’ve taken a break from their book club to make a statement

Stuff like this is not good for her. If I was her campaign team I’d also be trying to get Paul Murphy to shut up with his support of her. His support for her turns off an awful lot of rural typical Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil voters who may be tempted to vote for her otherwise given how bad Gavin and Humphrey’s are. She has to be careful who she aligns with.

I’ve always wondered why communist parties in the west insist on calling themselves communist and using the stereotypical communist imagery. I’m no marketing major, but I feel like it would be easier to sell people on your anticapitalist principles without the baggage of being associated with previous oppressive communist regimes. Makes it hard to take these people seriously, despite having some pretty compelling arguments.

That’s it, it’s over, she’s won.
Timing has never been their strong suit
All twelve of them? Unanimously?

Very surprised, I thought Jim Gavin had their vote for sure
Connolly supporter here. I’m a little worried as to what this will do to her reputation.
That’s just the [Communist Party of Ireland](https://communistparty.ie/en/)
the [Irish Communist Party](https://irishcommunistparty.ie) hasn’t endorsed her.
Nor have the [Revolutionary Communists of Ireland](https://communism.ie)
Well they were hardly going to back FG or FF.
