      Apparently after 14 years this election came as a shock to SF.

      Gerry Adams or Bernadette Devlin would have been excellent Presidents. It is a great pity neither of them put themselves forward for nomination.

      To be fair. I do think the optics were there if they could have framed the narrative of him as a peace maker. Certainly had the name recognition.

      Alas. Pity he ruled himself out. I hear he has some health issues.

      It’s no surprise a SF TD would have loved for the man who took bullets and nearly died for the rights of the Irish in the north, to have stood.

      I was hoping he would run but when Connolly announced her candidacy, backing her was the right choice.

      When it comes to the actual “job” of president, both Gerry and Bertie would have been very good.

      Problem is that both of them have too many skeletons in the closet to make a proper run at the Áras
