SpottedAlpaca on 30/09/2025 22:20 Gerry Adams or Bernadette Devlin would have been excellent Presidents. It is a great pity neither of them put themselves forward for nomination.
rossitheking on 30/09/2025 22:28 To be fair. I do think the optics were there if they could have framed the narrative of him as a peace maker. Certainly had the name recognition. Alas. Pity he ruled himself out. I hear he has some health issues. It’s no surprise a SF TD would have loved for the man who took bullets and nearly died for the rights of the Irish in the north, to have stood.
GallopingGobshite on 30/09/2025 22:53 I was hoping he would run but when Connolly announced her candidacy, backing her was the right choice.
ucd_pete on 30/09/2025 22:53 When it comes to the actual “job” of president, both Gerry and Bertie would have been very good. Problem is that both of them have too many skeletons in the closet to make a proper run at the Áras

Cool, maybe he would of, is he on the ballot? Who cares.
Buyers remorse?
Maybe they should have nominated him then.
Pat Mustard would have been a savage candidate too
Ok but Gerry Kelly would have been an epic President.

Apparently after 14 years this election came as a shock to SF.
