Surely I am not the only one who thinks this is an absolutely mental proposal?
Once more we’ll be robbing young people of their futures to pay for the pensioners
Yeah, no, pensioners living in 4/5 bedroom houses they don’t need is half the problem (the other half being that granted currently there’s no options for pensioners to downsize to)
Appeasing the grey vote. That’s all this is. It’s not the most pressing group to be given a dig out, especially when it comes to housing.
So no property tax for the section of the population who owns most of the property.
Rage bait…..this is what they want, not what’s in the budget
I want tax breaks for hurlers and increased tax for rugby players, dont mean it’ll happen
The indo is just obviously pandering to their readership.
But if this gains legs it’ll be the last straw for me, saving to buy the house we rent off the landlord, eligible for fuck all FTB supports because we don’t want to buy an overpriced new build cardboard box 20 mins away it’s fucking enraging to read that this is what those with their arse in the butter want. Note I’m fully aware not all pensioners would be in this category, but a fair percentage are.
Has to be wrong. How out of touch are the gov??? What about the people who can’t buy a house? If anything we should be increasing property tax on these properties
Not a great idea at all. Lower property tax for them? Maybe but I’d certainly be looking at means testing them. If the property is over a million then raise it
“No property tax for pensioners”
Possibly one of the most regressive measures I’ve heard suggested
How about no property taxes for primary residence and between triple and dodecuple property tax on a sliding scale for each subsequent property for everyone including institutions?
No? Oh well
We need to put a stop to the increase in pension benefits now or we’ll end up like the UK as their voting power increases.
That makes… Absolutely no sense whatsoever
The most selfish generation in our (pre and post independence) nation’s history continue to outdo themselves.
Feels like bait. A survey was sent out, older people more likely to engage with surveys clicked in their financial interest, let’s headline them as it *drives engagement.*
