The “Honor the Fallen” initiative is being led by the families of defenders, who are gathering for the fourth time at the Memorial on Independence Square in Kyiv.
Since 2014, the Maidan has become a national symbol of the struggle for freedom, and with the beginning of the full-scale war, it has become a place to honor the fallen soldiers, both Ukrainians and foreigners.
The memorial on Independence Square has no official name. Still, new flags appear here every day – each of them symbolizes the life of a warrior devoted to the freedom of Ukraine.
People come here to honor the memory of the fallen, bring candles, lamps, photos of heroes, flags of brigades, children’s drawings, letters, and amulets.
These things become a sign of gratitude and memory that unites all Ukrainians.
