      Tesco boss Ken Murphy has accused rivals including Asda of embarking on “irrational” price cuts and said he expects even more intense competition in the run-up to Christmas.

      The UK’s biggest supermarket raised its profit forecasts today after reporting UK sales for the first half of the year up 4.9%. These comments come after Ken Murphy faced scrutiny for a pay package increase in May 2024, where the Tesco PLC annual report revealed that Murphy had received a £10 million pay package for the year to February 2024, doubling his prior year’s earnings.

      This is the reason for a cost of living crises – prices (and profits) must only go one way.

      ROE averaging 10% in the past few years, which is only marginally more than its cost of capital. They make a margin of less than 2% on sales. Not that much wiggle room.

      I’m not particularly fond of any supermarket, what with all of their profiteering over the past 5 years or so, but god this makes me glad that I shop at Sainsburys instead of Tesco.

      I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, FUCK Tesco. Waitrose is expensive because it’s actually nice and you’re paying more for better food. Tesco is expensive but they’re completely and utterly fucking shit.

      Ken Murphy is a piece of shit, money hogging, clubcard diddling cock for brains. I hope and pray to god someone who knows him sees this and passes on the message.

      Fuck your Ken Murphy. I hope your house gets set on fire and you lose your stamp collection (he probably has one), your wife leaves you and your colleagues start a rumour that you pissed your pants at the Christmas party (he probably did).

      Your jam doughnuts are pretty decent though even though I preferred them with powdered sugar rather than granulated.

      I think we should still consider ourselves lucky that our supermarkets are super competitive with each other, making very small margins for each item sold.

      Though i still think since Aldi came on theres been a little collusion as everyone seems to do Aldi price match but deep down they probably could drop their prices to undercut aldi but wont do so.

      Man who has no concept of food prices and the cost of living, complains that rivals are competing with him and doesn’t understand why people who actually have to take prices into consideration would want to shop with places offering cheaper products…

      I guess his bonus is in danger with potential lower profits. I guess he also missed the economics lecture about finite resources, Tragedy of the Commons etc…

      And this is one of the reasons I don’t shop at Tesco any longer. I also hate how they make you join their clubcard programme otherwise you have to pay extortionate inflated prices (well even the club card prices aren’t always that great). I have clubcard membership from years ago but I just hate how they force people to use the club card otherwise they penalise you. Other places just give sale prices to everyone that chooses to shop their. I just really grinds my gears.
