    1. And this is the kind of policy Sir Kid Starver would support instead of, y’know, actually funding the NHS….

I have no idea why they weren’t banned decades ago. It baffles me that anyone still uses them anyway… I’ve been hearing how dangerous they are for at least 30 years…

One place in my town does unlimited sessions for £50 per month.
Makes me wince every time I pass the sign

They should use the scene from Final Destination 3, as a way to deter people that use them.

I’m surprised they’re not banned though.

While i agree i think that the first step should be banning the use of or promotion of Nasal Tanning sprays.

My wife uses phototherapy to treat a number of skin conditions, and before each session she spends some time sitting with the patient, double checking the exposure times and double checking if there’s any factors that might mean that the dose has to be reduced. Granted, her system probably packs a lot more wallop (with a tighter bandwidth) but it’s something you really shouldn’t fuck around with.

Cant the government just get out of peoples fucking lives???

Let people fuck themselves up however they want. If you want to look like a leather handbag and get skin cancer, fine, off you go, you do you

If you want to stink like an ashtray, cool, get lung cancer, we dont care

If you want to goon yourself to a blistered stump, nice, enjoy

Fucking government telling people how to live.

Seems excessive. Just put something in place that means these businesses have to advertise the risks. Like a large poster in one of the windows and at the side of each tanning bed(Same idea as the warnings on cigarette packets).Make it a rule that the staff need to talk to the customer before each session and explain the risks as well for those who can’t/wont read the posters.

Then allow consenting adults to make informed decisions about their own health.

I wholeheartedly agree, after being diagnosed over 10 times with skin cancer I am sure this was the cause. It was sold to me, in writing, that it actually prevented skin cancer because it didn’t have the dangerous rays the sun had so it was a safe way to tan.

    10. no_fooling on

No, sunbed tans are great way to segregate the stupid from the intelligent

    11. I don’t even get why these are a thing and who on earth uses them

    12. UnfortunateWah on

Always thought sunbeds were a uniquely pointless thing, just get a spray tan and not have to deal with the other health issues.

Doctors calling for the ban of something however isn’t really news, they’d ban every unhealthy thing or activity if they could.

    13. People are still using these things!?!?! Ffs. I thought they were all orange because of spray tans…

    14. TheCurrentThings on

Doctors won’t prescribe medication that’s easily available in the USA that tackles Seasonal Adjustment Disorder (wellbutrin I think it’s called). Fuck of doctors. Most of you are just government workers on a real cushy gig

I’m of the thinking this is one of those things that will just die out without needing a ban, a bit like smoking.

Most younger people I know are deadly against sunbeds (fake tans all the way for those who want one) much like they are with smoking.

One down the road from me near my local shop, and the only people I ever see going in and out are leathery 50/60 year olds.

    16. GhostRiders on

Just for those saying they should be banned here is something to compare them to.

Alcohol is estimated to cost the NHS £5 billion every year, Criminal Justice System£15 billion, Social Service £2.8 Billion and economy another £5 billion.

It is also the primary cause of death for approximately 10,000 people every year.

As for Sunbeds, it is estimated they are the primary cause of death for approximately 100 people every year,

Banning Sunbeds would save the NHS an estimated £1 million pounds per year.

Of course most people calling for them to be banned are those who often say “I don’t use them, I don’t understand why people do, ban them”

In other words, it doesn’t affect me so I don’t care.

Now if you were to say “Alcohol is going to be banned” I guarantee the same people would be screaming from the roof tops in anger
