Is it any surprise when gambling adverts are force fed to us all from a young age just about everywhere?

Despite years of gambling industry propaganda, the truth is starting to emerge.
1.4 million people in the UK are experiencing gambling harm. For each of those people, its estimated that there will be 6 affected others.
Leading the way among the most addictive, harmful gambling is slots on the high street. 24 hour adult gaming centres are on the rise, and under current laws its almost impossible to reject a licence for a new one.

Funny how the age control blocking to protect people from p*rn doesn’t extend to gambling sites isn’t it.

you call it ‘gambling’ I call it ‘having hope’ and if you’re telling me 1.4 million people have hope, I think that’s beautiful

I remember watching an interview with a former prisoner and he said a lot of people don’t realise how many people are in prison due to gambling related debt.
Once again I would like to ask Labour to not be obviously desperate to appease their donors for at least 40 seconds.
I’m not alien to a cheeky 64 folk accumulator that hinges on a 7-0 win to the Zambian women’s water polo club, but this sort of shit just turns people right off labour

This ignores the millions more (mainly children) that are basically being groomed by gambling in video games.
Oh but it isn’t legally gambling, you see! It’s just “surprise mechanics”! In real gambling you could actually win a ton of money but when you give EA money you can’t win anything, you don’t even own the digital cosmetics you’ve won….

I can’t get to imgur to look at an amusing cat picture but I can sign up to dozens of betting sites with just a debit card.

They should look at the number with cocaine problems, that is a far greater problem than gambling but imo is widely ignored.

I work with a lot of foreign companies and often have team members coming over to the UK to work with us or visit sites.
It comes up with almost all of them they find it really weird that gambling is **everywhere** in the UK. The team from China couldn’t believe even at a motorway service station there’s usually still a games room.

It’s wild how much gambling companies are able to get away with. I wanted to make use of a sign up offer once but never finished making the account, and a couple days later I got a phone call from the same company asking me to finish making it.
This sort of predatory behaviour should be illegal and should’ve been decades ago, I can’t understand why it’s allowed. You can easily see how people get drawn into it if they call you up and pressure you

You literally can’t blink without seeing an advert for gambling in this country.
You can’t walk down any high street without passing a number of bookies.
Is it any surprise?
Funnily enough smoking went right down when they banned advertising for it as well.

Imagine if there was actually more gaming machines in pubs how much of an issue there would be

Tax.the.f*ck.out.of.it.
And help pay for the social damage it causes.
It’s ok lads, [the culture minister said that gambling brings joy to millions, and only ruins the lives of some people in particular…](https://x.com/cleanupgambling/status/1973291840414888037?t=03WYmZ58oXk40jXxu0QBxw&s=19)
