Extremely tragic situation. I read they were one of the people keeping the door closed so the attacker couldn’t get in? Very brave person. RIP.

Aw man, I feel sorry for the officers if this turns out to be the case.

    3. Awful for all involved. Looks like the bullet(s) went through a door and hit them. I went to a firing range in America last year and fired an assault rifle. The power is so, so, so much more than the impression you get of them when you see them used on tv.

Absolutely tragic.  The responsibility lies entirely with the jihadist though and I hope the officers involved aren’t raked over the coals for this.

Ballistics experts in the comments eh?

Won’t know the case till they do the report. Best we do actually scrutinise each of these given we have so little in comparison, if it’s found to be in anyway an accident it’ll absolve him to a degree. Sadly probably won’t help with the guilt he’ll have regardless.

The man interviewed a few minutes ago on Sky News talks 100% sense. We need dialogue on all sides, not violence.

For those who lost their lives in defense of their community, may their memories be a blessing.

Very sad if true, but the fact still remains – 2 innocent people would be alive today if a radicalised madman had not come for them with a knife.

One of the other victims who is alive in hospital also sustained a gunshot wound.

It seems several synagogue attendees were using their bodyweight to prevent entry – and as police stopped the threat of entry and the potential explosive device, those bullets passed through the attacker, through the door and into the victims.

      An absolutely tragic situation.

I worry about the sheer scrutiny the officers are about to go under. Very much damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. Don’t shoot and he triggers a bomb killing more, but shooting it also kills someone behind.

I suspect the bullet may have traveled through the suspects body.

      Two killed
      3 others injured.

50% killed by the police, 33% injured by the police.

I’ll be curious to see what the enquiry says because so far i understand it people was inside whilst the suspect was out when shot.

Awful. These officers are usually trained to focus solely on the target and the blame for this lays entirely with the terrorist.

      That is absolutely awful.

But also, the attacker’s name was literally Jihad? Shouldn’t that be a massive red fucking flag right off the bat?

    13. Terrible but hopefully their family members know that anyone holding the doors probably saved a *lot* of lives.

      That is an incredible legacy.

Speaking as someone who has friends who were in the synagogue yesterday: It is a terrible thing but unless an investigation shows otherwise, I believe the officers deserve the benefit of our doubt. This was a horrifying tragedy that unfolded over the space of minutes, where many many more people could have died if the police had hesitated. And none of it would have happened if not for Al-Shamie himself.

The people who barricaded the door acted with immense bravery in a terrifying situation nobody should ever be placed in.
