Absolutely no fucking backbone from the ruling axis of FFG. The FFG shillboys will utter it’s more about our economic well being. I feel sad at this news, I genuinely do.
Ah yes Simon Harris and his famous disappearing backbone.
Services were never going to be included because it’s utterly unworkable. We don’t even sanction services produced in occupied Ukraine, and that’s not because of “corporate pressure”. The only reason services were ever considered is because Frances Black’s only qualification for the Senate was being able to sing, and she didn’t know what she was doing when she wrote the first draft.
What is exclusive here?
This is a rehashing of what the government have been saying publicly since before the summer. They will only include services if the AG says they can. Most people with some knowledge of the subject don’t think the AG will say that they can, because it would be difficult to do so and doing it wrong creates huge problems for businesses.
Welcome to the real world – we should be working from within the EU so there’s a common approach on sanctions. Otherwise we’re just shooting ourselves in the foot for no tangible gain. Thankfully the government and civil servants are prepared to take the necessary decisions that our well meaning pro Palestinian public finds unpalatable.
Never vote for any politician or party that is soft on Genocide and the mass slaughter of children.
This is an extremely low bar.
> Government officials are now poised to limit the scope of the legislation to goods only
This is a non story, the fact the current legislation only applies to goods has long been known.
Heather Humphreys has already said that there is no point passing these sanctions.
I think it perfectly encapsulates Fine Gael that they were happy to fight the EU in the highest court because they didn’t want to accept the Apple Tax owed to Ireland but they are not willing to challenge a country committing genocide and ethnic cleansing in occupied Palestine.
Barry Heneghan will have to phone in his support for weakening the sanctions from the flotilla trying to deliver aid to Gaza.
Surely a contender for gold in Mental Gymnastics in Los Angeles 2028?
Ah man, I can only take one “screw you” from the government per month, and we already have the budget coming up……
Good. Ireland risks becoming the poster-boy for anti-semitism world-wide.
We are very, very vulnerable to this economically. Also, pushing back now will show the assholes that shut the city down yesterday that intimidation does not work.
They said it best in the presidential debate:
Catherine Connolly: “There has been enough talking, we need to take action”.
Heather Humphreys: “We need to continue to speak out”.
The government will talk all day about Palestine but they won’t do anything.
Gov has been saying they will exclude services for a while now, what’s the new news here? Or am I misreading something
Can we just stop recognising them as a country? Start campaigning the EU to cease all travel to the country and not allow any Israeli aircraft in our skies. Do what we can to isolate them. The US would be super pissed though
