>Joanne Lazarus, 61, from Whitefield, Bury, shouted “shame on you” and “you’re embarrassing” at David Lammy as he spoke at the vigil.
>She said she wanted the Government to stop pro-Palestine marches taking place.
The government has already been heavy handed with them, now they want them to flat out ban people from protesting? Just a totally unreasonable demand. Undoubtedly they won’t take the same stance when it comes to the people who were trying to set fire to hotels last year I imagine.
Not shocked the last two Governments have just sat back in fear and let antisemitism grow again in the country.
Hasn’t Lammy been everything but for Palestinians, what are these people on?
It’s ok. He was probably there for hours and didn’t hear anyone booing or heckling.
Justified. That’s what you get for rewarding terror.
Edit: to all the people downvoting, ask hamas to accept the peace and ceasefire deal. Israel has already accepted it. Supporting intifada wankers won’t spare you either. They will come after you next.
Anti-Semitism is clearly a significant problem in this country, like so many others, and yesterday’s terrorist attack is utterly abhorrent.
But to attempt to conflate protests against a genocide in Palestine with actual anti-Semitic attacks does nothing to help matters. Protest against the actions of Israel are not protesting Jews or Judaism.
Conflating the thorny Middle East issue with domestic terrorism is a dangerous path that only benefits terrorists and warmongers
I’m not surprised, he read from a script with no emotion or true empathy, thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers, it’s wearing thin
Why is some racism allowed but other not?
Should we be complicit in a genocide? Or stand up to those doing it?
Holy shit, Lammy could be dropping off the bombs personally and that wouldn’t be enough.
Gotta love that man he’s very pro-Israel, kerching!!!!!
This is the first time I feel those who are victims of a tragedy or part of that community are wrong and make me lose sympathy for them.
You can debate whether his address was authentic or if he fully meant it – I don’t think it was “empty words”. The content of the address that Lammy made and it’s broad message was exactly the same as the Council Leader and Mayor. The only difference being he’s the Deputy PM so has a responsibility for the whole country and must talk about that. I didn’t understand why he could say the same speech and people don’t appreciate it.
The bit that disgusted me was the “go to Palestine” comment. If I’m honest, those saying that or similar things are no better than those pro-Palestinian voices who believe Israel shouldn’t exist. He rightfully told those who plan to march to stand back and yet apparently that’s not enough.
What they’re essentially calling for is to ban a protest which if that happened, people would rightfully say you’re stopping freedom of speech and the right to protest. I don’t belueve those protests should go ahead, it’s completely tone deaf if you go. The right way to go is for those who are protesting to understand themselves the need to give space following this attack.
Why don’t Middle East peace talks ever work on Zoom?
Because both sides keep saying, “You’re on mute!” but no one wants to unmute first.
Free speech and the right to peacefully protest **must** be protected.
The heckler does realise lammy has taken over 100k from isreali’s companies
Good. The brass neck on him. Hate matches have gone through our town centres for months now.
