Had the good fortune to meet him on several occasions. Absolutely charming man, and embodied the Irish language with a great reverence and humility. The second I said I had trouble with Irish in school, his first instinct was to express sympathy and speak simpler Irish that I could respond to. For the first time ever, I felt like I was a part of the language school taught me to be afraid of.
The department of education should study him, religiously, in coming years.
Ireland has lost one of its finest sons. One of the most genuine people you would ever meet. RIP MM.
I only found out about this just now, such dreadfully sad news. The poor man went far too soon.
I had a lovely chat with him about farming and building a wild swimming pond at Borris a few years ago and he was there again this summer amd signed some books for me. Such a loss.
I admired his work. Some of those comments are a tad overwrought.
