It was an NUIG Lit&Deb it wasn’t a Catherine Connolly event, all candidates were invited but she was the only one who showed up.

But don’t let facts get in the way of headlines

There was a question and answers section at the end, and I do believe it was pre approved questions – something like 80% of questions were denied. But in classic Burke fashion, he stood up half way through the talk, and starting shouting his questions at her expecting her to answer. He also ambushed in the hall before the event. He then turns it into a free speed tirade.

If the Burkes behaved normally, people might listen to them. But they just shout and scream and make it about them. Every single one of them has gotten physically removed or carried out of a building at some point. I guess when you behave like an ape, don’t be surprised when people treat you like one.

I really wish we’d deal with them like the Yanks did when they gatecrashed some Paddys day event and dragged away and thrown on their arses.

Where did this one pop out of?

Did 2 Burke siblings make it?

      > The event, which was organised by the university’s Literary and Debating society, had been billed as a presidential debate, and two empty chairs were left at the top table for Jim Gavin of Fianna Fáil and Heather Humphreys of Fine Gael who were unable to attend.

so it wasn’t a “catherine connolly event”, it was a presidential debate organized by NUIG’s Lit and Debate society to which all three candidates were invited. can the paper of record please stop printing lies, or is that too much to ask anymore?

Can we stop giving these people airtime? The amount of articles about a student asking an inflammatory question at a debate is ridiculous. It’s playing directly into the hands of that particular family. Ignoring them is the tonic for that lot
