October 5 is a solemn day for the village of Hroza, Kharkiv region, marking the anniversary of the missile strike on a local cafe that killed dozens of residents.

Among the victims was the Kozyr family. During the strike, Valentyna Kozyr lost her son Ihor, her daughter Olha, her grandson Ivan, and her husband Anatolii.

“It’s hard for me to speak. My daughter Olha was kind and a good mom to her son. She didn’t want to leave, but I took my grandson. My son Ihor lived in another village. He came with his wife and their eight-year-old son Denys. My family came to honot Andrii who was our cousin. Everyone died – it’s all family. Along with my children, my husband’s relatives perished too”

The wife and daughter of the soldier, Andrii, who was being burried during the massacre, were killed as well. They had traveled from Poland for the burial. Before the war, Andrii and his son Denys had lived in Poland but returned to Ukraine to fight. Denys, who had served for over a year, left the military due to health reasons and wanted to rebury his father in their home village.

Across from the Kozyr home is a playground that Andrii had built with a neighbor for the village children.

The empty Kozyr family home now stands as a silent reminder of the lives lost and the enduring grief of Hroza.

I remember that and lets pray that they are punished for doing shit like that. I don’t see how anyone that is not a psychopath can do that to civilians much less women and children.
