Why are we subsiding demand for housing here?

The only argument for this is encouraging family formation and marriage but building more housing would do a better job of that.

    2. A blatant bribe for votes if I’ve ever seen one.

Funded by austerity on a scale never seen before in this country.

Austerity to pump money into the housing stock is certainly an interesting economic strategy. If you give everyone £5000 to buy a house with then house prices just go up by £5000 to match.

Knee-jerk policies and bribes. All likely rowed back upon if ever returned to office.

They could promise every house buyer a naked sauna with 100 willing virgins and it’d be just as meaningless they’re never going to be in a position to enact it.

Making houses cheaper only puts the prices up. It’s simple economics.

Ah yes, yet another short termist policy designed to buy votes short term while driving up house prices long term.

Add it to the list of low deposit mortgage guarantees and stamp duty holidays that have done nothing but exacerbate the problem.

    7. If there is something a Conservative Party likes more than austerity it’s terrible measures to help people into an inflated housing market.

      When it’s a politician, I promise it’s not a promise they won’t follow through.

Better option would be to revert the stamp duty changes for first time buyers.

Going from £425k to £300k, disappointed with labour on that one.
